      I'm a 27-year-old registered nurse and former newspaper health reporter. I gave up an 8-year career to follow my passion into nursing. I came to DS looking for support after being diagnosed with epilepsy. I have faced a few tough challenges since then, always with the support of my DS friends.

      I smoked for 14 years, then quit March 1, 2008.

      Treatments

      Easyway To Stop Smoking Too Soon to Tell
      Finished the book and smoked my last cigarette on June 21, 2009. I believe in this. I feel great and I have no cravings or withdrawal "symptoms." I can - no - I AM DOING THIS!
      Nicotine Patch Not Working
      Worked to get me off of cigarettes for a little over a year, but I relapsed.
      Willpower Not Working
      Used this after the patch and failed. Willpower does not work.

      Type: Compete in a race

      I quit smoking in the beginning of March, and I started walking to relieve stress and get some exercise. Then I started a running plan to get me and my lungs back in shape. Goal: Run a 5k.

      I recently hit 150 after a 5 lbs increase over 2 weeks. My goal weight is 120 or lower.

      Counting Calories Working / Worked
      Doctor put me on a calorie counting diet. He started me out at 1200-1300 calories daily for six weeks in the fall of 2008. Lost 12 lbs in 6 weeks. Stopped counting calories and fell into my old habits - and gained 7 lbs. Now I'm back to eyeballing it, and will start counting soon. Already lost 4 lbs.
      Eating Healthier Foods Working / Worked
      I've been grocery shopping ONLY once a week and planning out dinners for the entire week. I pick up tons of healthy proteins, fruits and veggies on that one trip so that I make sure I eat them all week long.

      My sister-in-law hung herself in Sept. Now an investigation is being carried out to see if she was actually murdered.

    • Open Career Changes

      Where to start? Started reporting at 16, and after 8 years and Hurricane Katrina, I was very burned out. I had been a health reporter and always felt at home in the hospital. So I decided to switch to nursing. I take boards March 12, 2009.

    • Open Anxiety

      I was diagnosed bipolar in 2001, and never had symptoms of anxiety. But I started having anxiety attacks after I got diagnosed with seizures in 2006. Just found out that that's what my psychiatrist was calling these panic moments...
