    • About Me

Forced to retire at age 48 by my employer, fortunately I qualified for Disability. I have many other medical problems and pain issues besides Fibromyalgia. I flare up all the time and sleep the days away. Family and Friends don't know how to deal with it. Life sucks,

I see the back doctor on monday morning.  I finally had an MRI that showed something other than a bulge or a "slight".  You know …

    • Close Back Pain

I have constant back pain from degenerative disk disease.

      Treatments

      Acupressure Not Working
All it gave me were Pins and Needles.
      Acupuncture Not Working
Like Acupressure, all it gave me were Pins and Needles.
      Bedrest Working / Worked
It gave the spasming muscles a chance to relax to let the disk go back into place.
      Carisoprodol Somewhat Helpful
      Flexeril is much, much better.
      Chiropractic Adjustment Not Working
From my point of view - made things worse
      Epidural Injection Not Working
I had one, didn't make any difference in pain levels at all. waste of my time and money
      Fentanyl Working / Worked
I've been on Duragesic Patches, 100 strength, since 2001. They do help relieve the pain, but they make one really, really tired.
      Flexeril Working / Worked
I take these when the disk initially slips out. The help the spasming muscles and allow the disk to slip back into place. They are a wonder drug!
      Heat Somewhat Helpful
When my back muscles are actively spasming, then I'll use a heating pad and it does seem to help, that along with Flexeril.
      Hydrocodone Working / Worked
Oxycodone - I take this in addition to Duregesic (Fentanyl patches). Oxycodone is for BREAKTHROUGH PAIN. It works. It's side effect is that it keeps me awake.
      Ibuprofen Not Working
This is a joke, isn't it?
      Morphine Somewhat Helpful
For a few weeks my Pain Specialist tried me on Kadian as a substitute for Duragesic (Fentanyl). Kadian make me extremely dopey and sleepy - I couldn't function at all. I had to stop using it.
      Naproxen Not Working
Tried this years ago. Naprosyn is definitely not strong enough to control inflamed back muscles and disks.
      Physical Therapy Not Working
I tried weeks and weeks of Physical Therapy, Traction, everything. The last time I tried it, it included traction and heat to help a herniated disk in my lower back. The Result - it made things worse - when I was done with a session, my leg muscles would be weaker then when I began - I would go to do stretching and floor exercises and couldn't even lift my legs off the floor - the traction and heat made my nerves controlling my legs worse!!
      Relaxation Working / Worked
As long as you are not active. You must rest, actively rest during the vacation.
      Stretching Not Working
Did stretching in addition to Physical Therapy - they made it worse.
      TENS Somewhat Helpful
All it gave me was a Buzz.
      Celebrex Somewhat Helpful
Ive been on Celebrex for years. Its somewhat helpful for my other types of Osteoarthritis.
