Getting back on track
I finally was able to meet with the doctor who will be managing my diabetic care here in Texas today. She seemed optimistic about getting my …
I am a stay at home mother of a beautiful baby boy and a military wife. My husband is currently serving his third tour in Iraq. I was diagnosed as a Type 2 diabetic in June of 2007. I initially was started on Metformin but after finding out I was pregnant in August of the same year, I was switched to daily insulin injections. Post pregnancy, I have best responded to injections alone so I've "technically" progressed to Type 1 diabetes. My mother has been a Type 1 diabetic for 40+ years and my father has been a Type 2 diabetic for 10+ years. I've had a history of depression and anxiety, both which are now well controlled. I do my best to use my experiences with the disease to help others.

do not feel badly, we did not find out for years the difference of type 1 and type 2. we always thought if you were a child you were type 1; and if you were n adult, you were type 2.
please take care of yourself and eat right. you can be "normal" if you take car. i am sure you have found out that during an emotional spell, your sugar might go up. my husband's ,amy times goes above 400.
my best, lorrie
i read your posting. type 1 diabetes is when the pancreas is dead and makes no insulin at all. my husband got type 1 at age 37. he wears an insulin pump. he is ow 68, has had no significant problems with the disease.
type 2 diabetes is where the pancreas produces some insulin--it is not dead. (dead is not the correct word, but it says it like it is.) so, with type 2, you can take insulin or oral medication. it does not mean you are type 1.
the meds people take with type 2 somethimes encourage the pancreas to do a little work producing insulin.
so that is the difference between the two.

Just giving a shout out to you to welcome you to the diabetic forum. I'm sure you'll make lots of friends here and gets loads of support. I know i have. Take care, hugs and kisses, Deb :o)
I just read your profile. Did your doc dx you with type 1 or 2? Type 1 is an autoimmune disease very different from Type 2. The main difference being Type 1 people do not produce insulin at all. Type 2 people produce insulin but have become insulin resistant. Only about 10% of diabetics are Type 1.
Hi! Welcome to the board. :)
I was diagnosed Type 2 Diabetic in June 2006. After my pregnancy, I was strictly placed on insulin rather than oral medications (so I assume that implies I've transitioned to Type 1).I have been more of less in denial since that time and I recently have had my eyes opened to the fact that I desperately need to get my body and glucose levels under control. I need the accountability and support of other diabetics.

My husband is currently on his third deployment to Iraq. It's the first deployment for me, however, and we have a 15 month old son. I just need a little extra support on those really rough days.
I've always been somewhat overweight. Since having my son, I've gotten back down to my wedding weight (which is 20lbs less than my weight when I found out I was expecting) but I still have about 100lbs left to lose to have a healthy BMI. I'm here for support and accountability more than anything else.
I have a beautiful son who was born April 22, 2008. I am working on getting him onto a better daily schedule.
