I didn't have a bilateral mastectomy; however, with my single mastectomy I found it helpful to have a bra with inserts to even things out. In your case, you could get inserts on both sides for symmetry.

Of course, this only helps with how you feel others see you and not how you see yourself with no clothes on. I was more concerned with looking 'normal' to others.

I had my first reconsytructive surgery on the 16th to put a chest expander in. My mastectomy was July of last year. I found reconstruction was definitely the correct choice for me and hope to be done with it by January.

If you find you have self-image issues, I would strongly recommend you find a counselor through your oncologist's office. They have great referrals that specialize in this.

I am sure you are a beautiful woman and we are all more than our breasts. Try to focus on your inner beauty while you make the decisions that are right for you in regard to reconstrution or other long term 'solutions' to your 'problem'. Once you make a decision and begin to execute it, I believe you will feel better.

      Best of luck to you.
