  Hi, welcome to DS and the Scoliosis support group. I have very severe scoliosis and I had a spinal fusion in 1979 when I was 14. It is major surgery and I do understand being very scared, I've been through it. Its normal to feel that way. She will be fine, and it will be worth it, if left untreated it can cause a lot of problems later in life. I know she doesnt want to wear a brace for six months, when I had mine done years ago I had to wear a body cast for 9 months. Is the brace just going around her lower back? If so, she may be able to hide it some wearing a little larger clothes. I know it will be hard on her but the results will be so worth it. I would be happy to talk with her if she wants to. I hope I've been helpful, everything will be ok and the 6 months should go by quickly. I wish you the best and I would like to hear how shes doing after the surgery. Hugs, Bonnie
