    • About Me

I consider "About Me" to usually be a poinless wankfest of useless information, but if you're really dying to know... I'm 33 and married to the awesomest person I know. While I have been struggling with health issues for many years now, some scary new ones have prompted me to reach out and communicate with folks who can relate. I think it would be interesting to get illness-management ideas from other people who have been there. I am especially interested in trying to manage my illness(es) with as little synthetic medication as I can manage. I prefer to use natural remedies where at all possible.

    • Gruelling, But Worthwhile...

      Mood August 21, 2009 8:30pm

This describes my week so far, in a nutshell.  Saturday night, after feeling shaky and chilly and achy all day, I saw red poop in the toilet and …

    • Hug

      From Jenn1307 September 30

If a tarot reading, levitation, crystal ball, or some other magical somethign would tell me that one day soon I will be a mommy I am all for it. I believe in God and all that but, as I was saying to my DH the other night, one of these days when I hear someone say they found God and found Jesus, I am going to respond I didn't know they were lost. Hope you have a great hump day. Any mystical vibes you can throw my way are greatly appreciated. XO :)

    • Close Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

Diagnosed in 2000, played musical meds for awhile, & still working on it.

      Treatments

      Metformin Not Working
Had to discontinue. It gave me heart palpitations and muscle weakness in my chest. OUCH. Will try another drug though!
      Oral Contraceptives Somewhat Helpful
Quelled the constant bleeding, but periods refused to come on time. It was like putting a cork up my hoo-hah to stop the flow. Also experienced near-crippling nausea on each type I tried (Mircette, Kariva, Yaz). Yaz also gave me migraines and occasional weird bouts of peripheral neuropathy.
      Provera Somewhat Helpful
THIS SUCKED! Pros: Period came; regular orgasms became wildly intense and super-pleasurable. Cons: Horrible bitchy mood swings teetering precariously on the brink of insanity, terrible sick feeling, dizziness. Had to stay in bed for the last 4-5 days of use.
    • Close Phobia

I have gephyrophobia, and also a fear of all things medical (sometimes includes taking drugs, watching related TV shows, and talking with medical professionals in a social setting).

      Treatments

      Acceptance Working / Worked
      Ativan Somewhat Helpful
I've only used it a few times under instances of extreme panic, and it does help.
    • Open Bereavement
      Type: Loss of a Pet

She left me in 2003. Sometimes, just saying her name will make me cry.

      Treatments

      Crying Somewhat Helpful
      Getting Angry Not Working
I was mad at the vet, and at myself. The blame game was not the best idea.
      Helping Others Working / Worked
Best thing I could have done! This was a great tribute to our friendship, and made me feel very good about myself.
      Keeping Busy Somewhat Helpful
      Pets Somewhat Helpful
I didn't want to "replace" her, but opening our home to someone who needed it was helpful for all parties involved! And it was nice not having to be alone all the time.
      Remembering Considering
Every year, I want to get a memorial ornament on the holiday tree at the big animal hospital nearby. We never do it, but I really hope to do so. Maybe this year.
Support from Friends & Family Somewhat Helpful
Most of my family didn't understand how badly I was affected by this situation. People get sick of having to listen to me, but it helped for awhile.
      Time Somewhat Helpful
Sometimes I feel guilty for moving on with my life, and leaving her behind.
    • Open Back Pain

My back is fucked up. I have recently been diagnosed with degenerative spinal discs. I will be getting physical therapy for this in the near future, which I hope will help!

      Treatments

      Acupuncture Considering
      I wish! (It's expensive.)
      Bedrest Somewhat Helpful
I'd stay in bed forever if I could. But that's not going to fix anything, really.
      Heat Somewhat Helpful
      Ibuprofen Somewhat Helpful
      Naproxen Somewhat Helpful
      Relaxation Working / Worked
    • Open Obesity

I have 2 metabolic disorders, and I am fat.

      Treatments

Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Somewhat Helpful
      NutriSystem Not Working
I stuck to NS rigidly for an entire summer a couple of years ago, but I was not able to lose any weight.
      Physical Exercise Considering
I need to get other aspects of my health in check before I can start an exercise program.
    • Open Migraine Headaches

HOLY SHIT, I hate migraines! Never had them until about a year ago. They suck.

      Treatments

Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
      Caffeine Somewhat Helpful
      Naproxen Not Working
    • Open Porphyria
      Type: Acute Intermittent Porphyria (AIP)

A positive test result can be tough to get. My doctor says we'll keep trying.

      Treatments

Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Somewhat Helpful
I need to stay away from so many things. But apparently this will help me avoid attacks or make the attacks shorter! Im trying!
