I am fairly new with this too. My dad will start talking about something (usually money) and he goes on and on repeating himself. Its so frustrating. Sometimes I think, is that all he cares about! Changing the subject may work for a few minutes, but thats about it. Sometimes he says off the wall things, and even hurtful things. We have to remember it is the Dementia talking, not him. He comes up with some wild stories sometimes - in HIS mind they are true - and there is no since in arguing with him. Yes, it is frustrating. But, there are GOOD days, it helps dealing with the bad days a little easier.

Welcome to the group. I know in the beginning it is so frustrating and even confusing to the person who is not ill. Keep that in mind. When things spew out, it is the illness talking. My mom is on Aricept. It seems to help a bit with cognition and some remembering recent events, no miracle drug by far, but any little bit helps.
Stay strong and vent often!
Lisa
