Merry Christmas Everyone! Mood

Merry Christmas to everyone on DS!

It's Christmas Eve. The kids are getting excited and there's lots to do for the holidays. I'm trying very hard to slow down, to let things go, and enjoy the holidays and my children's happiness and joy. A lot has happened since last Christmas for a lot of us. That's the one constant in life, there will always be change.

I was almost positive this time last year I was headed for divorce, I was recovering from surgery #1 and feeling really cruddy. I'm relatively healthy now and things have settled. I'm not in this perpetual panic over thoughts of my marriage ending, and it feels much better. Marriage is hard. No one tells you that, that it's the hardest thing you'll ever do. Everyone has advice about all kinds of stuff, but no one says a word about how to keep a marriage good-I guess it's too complicated. But I'm okay right now. He's okay right now. The kids are okay and our little crazy family is trucking along and enjoying the holidays. That's the best we can do. We can put on a Christmas movie and snuggle on the couch and all the junky stressful stuff goes away and it's just us, out little family and we're okay.

I think next year will the best one yet. I will be 40! I have some personal goals that I am determined to reach and the h and I going to work together to take care of the kids and house and finances and things so that we can work on getting the stress out of our lives. I have all the hope in the world we can do this all!

Wow everything sounds wonderful and the new year goals sound excellent. The snuggling onthe couch and watching tv sounds good. I'm exhausted, its only 7:20 and I'm tired. I have been going all day long. Merry Chjristmas and happy New year.

I am proud of you and happy for you, your husband, and your children. May the coming New Year be one of daily peace, joy, love, and prosperity.

You are right about marriage being hard. We have been together 32 years now and it is still challenging at times. But I love her and she loves me so we press on together. I learned long ago to surprise her with little getaways. Even a one night away is a great way to keep the marriage strong.

If your husband is not one to do this kind of thing but it appeals to you, consider initiating the first one of two yourself to a place he would enjoy. While away, talk with him about how you did it and let him know how much you like this. Then maybe suggest taking turns so he is in charge of the next one. If possible, select a date and let him run with it. He may screw up the first time or two, but if he is game about it he will figure things out. Regardless of what you may have heard, I believe ALL husbands are trainable. :)

    Sincerely,

    OldChurchGuy
