Wow--I'm late to the party again! Welcome to DS and to the "Children of" group. I have been moving my Mom and Dad in with me since July and they are still very upset with the move. But it had to be. I could not help from 90 minutes away. My Dad is 82 and has been diagnosed about 2-3 years now. He takes generic Sinemet. The dosage has gradually increased over time. Last year, they added Comtan, but he only takes one a day, kind of like a booster for the first Sinemet of the day. I will caution you that in the frail elderly, Sinemet can pack a wallop so just be sure he is on as low a dose as possible to give him a good quality of life. In my Dad's case, that was about 1/3 of the normal dose--otherwise, he was hallucinating and frightened. I wasn't on here much between May and August but plan to be on here more often now so feel free to message me and I'll respond as soon as I can. Welcome!

My Mom has been on the generic for Sinemet for at least 5 years now and she has not had any real problems from it. Without it she would not be able to get around. She was tried on a number of different PD meds but that was what worked the best for her. It's a very delicate balancing act and you need a very good PD doctor - neurologist/movement specialist to guide you every step of the way and be willing to listen to every single change because there is constant change over the years. Hope this helps some. I'm not on very much but I do try to answer when I can. Sorry it took me so long. Glad you joined the other boards. That should help a LOT. Best wishes to you and yours.

Welcome to the Children of Parents with PD group. Even though it's small we have a wonderful group and there are so many who have so much knowledge and can really help, especially newbies like me. It's definitely not an easy road for the patient or the caregiver. If you need anything, please let us know. We're not on as often as before. Everyone is really having some struggles right now but if you message me if you need something - if I don't know the answer I can find someone who does and try to get you some help. Didn't see if you've joined but I would also check into the Caregivers and Caring for Aging Parents groups. Best wishes and hope for peace for you and yours.

Close Caring For Aging Parents
I am caring for my elderly father who is 83 years old and has recently been diagnosed with partkinson's. He also has some other health issues. He is able to get around and take care of his basic taks. I am semi retired and am not able to do a lot physically as I am also in pain and also get very tired. I want to do the best thing for him.
