    • About Me

I am 47 years old. I am married w/ 3 cats. I live in the heart of Hollywood! I landed here ten years ago. I was born in Paris, France, but grew up in the Maryland suburbs of D.C. I studied biology in college and then went to grad school for a degree in Library Science. I've worked for government, nonprofit foundation, and academic libraries. I am on short-term disability. My doctor found a line of discussion that was 100% relevant to me, and the poster got almost 10 responses! Now that's a support group. I also have two sisters with RA and I plan to forward them this link. (I also have two siblings, a brother and sister, who've never been sick a day in their lives!) Funny how things work out.

    • Hug

QUESTION. How on earth did you ever find me?

    • Hug

      From phloxinsox November 8

Great news! Canceling the cards is a good safety precaution under such circumstances anyway. Hope the return of your wallet also restores your faith.

    • Close Rheumatoid Arthritis

I've always been sick. I had an appendectomy when I was 6. Tonsils out at 8. In my early twenties, my ankle exploded. The swelling went up my shin! Now I've been dx-ed with celiac/sprue, RA, and a host of other problems. Chronic shingles. OUCH! Fighting with my rotten employer USC @ disability. Had to retain a lawyer. Are you crying yet?

      Treatments

      Celebrex Not Working
It was as if the doctor gave me a roll of Certs!
      Folic Acid Working / Worked
Don't know, just started on it.
      Methotrexate Working / Worked
      Just started on it.
      Pain Management Clinic Not Working
I was in a pain clinic for months. My psychologist kept encouraging me to leave their practice! A total nutjob.
      Plaquenil Working / Worked
Helped a wee bit. Still on it.
      Crying Not Working
    • Close Celiac Disease

To network, meet others with Celiac/Sprue and share information and offer support.

      Treatments

Gluten Free Diet Working / Worked
As long as I am strict and don't let one molecule of gluten enter my body, I'm okay. I do get poisoned accidentally. This happens only when I eat out. My weight concerns me. Very thin. Complications - immune system breakdown. Better and better products become available but the cost is ruinous!
      Crying Not Working
    • Open Chronic Pain

To network with others who are in the same boat as me. Dealing with pain on a daily basis is difficult. It effects my mood, memory, etc. and it hurts!

      Treatments

      Chiropractic Adjustment Not Working
Terrible experience. Chiropractor couldn't get my back to crack, so he kept pushing with increasing vigor. I had to ask him to stop. Two days later I could barely walk. Took weeks to recuperate from that injury. Never again! Quacker! I say!
      Cymbalta Not Working
Side effects were awful. I already have a swollen prostate. This drug made urinating an every other day experience. Horrible!
      Flexeril Not Working
Haven't taken this in years. Didn't seem to help. Just served as a potentiator for the vicodin.
      Heat Working / Worked
      Sometimes. Ice is better.
      Hydrocodone Working / Worked
This is a god send. 3 pills a day. Period. Still have breakthrough pain, but nothing like before. Constipation is an issue.
      Lidoderm Working / Worked
Helped my back pain because it's the only flat surface on my body. How am I supposed to stick one of those patches on places like my groin area when I have shingles? And it's way too expensive!
      Lyrica Working / Worked
Seems to help my post herpetic neuralgia, but little effect on my arthritis pain. Stopped having RLS when I started on Lyrica too.
      Marijuana Working / Worked
Helps if you don't over indulge. Just two puffs in the morning. Two puffs at night. Sometimes I will smoke during the day, but that's when I'm in serious pain and I just want to sleep.
      Meditation Working / Worked
It works if you can relax enough. Sometimes the pain gets in the way.
      Morphine Working / Worked
Always works, but only have been administered in hospital setting.
      Naproxen Working / Worked
No! Totally contraindicated because of my celiac.
      Neurontin Not Working
Wretched side effects. Made me feel as though I were jumping out of my skin. Made me feel really toxic.
      Physical Therapy Not Working
      Feh!
      TENS Not Working
      Quackery! Worthless! Don't do it!
      Topamax Working / Worked
It may have helped some of my nerve pain and neurological stuff (post herpectic neuralgia, RLS, peripheral neuropathy) but the cost is RUINOUS! Seemed to build up in my system too, started to feel sick to my stomach all the time. Blech!
      Duragesic Patch Working / Worked
Like a charm it works! There is an adjustment period when you have to get used to it. Be strict and meticulous in its use. Always mark the time when you need to change it. Keep away from pets or toddlers. This drug is for people who have been on opiate therapy a long time. Should never be considered a first line drug constipation is a side effect as is sedation. No more car keys for me.
      Crying Not Working
      Lexapro Working / Worked
Stopped working. Side effects. Toxic w/ all my other meds. Made it really hard to urinate.
    • Open Rape

      It happend.

      Treatments

      Psychotherapy Too Soon to Tell
I've a lot of issues that my psychiatrist is helping me with. We've agreed for the past ten years to call one particular episode "the bad thing." Just talking/writing about it now makes me break out w/ a sweat and stomach ache.
      Talking Somewhat Helpful
I've been lucky with my friends in life and my wife is very supportive too.
      Lexapro Working / Worked
Stopped working. Side effects. Started to become toxic in my system. Made it really hard to urinate.
