Drug status Mood
Sunday, July 12, 2009 | A General Update story

Today I went from 10mg prednisone to 7.5mg.  I plan to keep reducing by 2.5mg every five days.  (I was at 15mg a couple weeks ago.)  So far my symptoms have not gotten worse.  It seems like I am in a bit of a remission.  In addition to the prednisone I am taking Humira 1x per week - on Monday mornings.  I am seriously considering surgery.  I want to stop taking Humira due to the potentail side effects.

In addition to the drugs I am avoiding dairy foods and trying to practice good food combining habits.  One of the books I read suggested not drinking water with a meal or within one hour of eating.... so I am doing that as well.

What if the new diet is responsible for my improved health?  What if I am taking unneccessary risks with these drugs?  What if surgery is really the best solution for me now that I have dealt with UC for 25 years?  What will it fell like to get my energy level back?  mountain biking, running, weight lifting, rock climbing, mountaineering, adventure racing, paddling.  I miss these things in my life.  Is surgery the only door I have to go through to get all this back?

If drugs work to reduce my symptoms but also make me so tired I am not really living..... then are they really working?

Weaight is 149 lbs.  Holding steady.
