First day on DS Mood
Friday, July 3, 2009 | A General Update story

Today I joined DailyStrength.  I see it as a place that will provide some needed friends and much appreciated advice as I go through this journey ...... this battle with colitis.

After more than 25 years I am arriving at the point of requiring surgery.  The drugs don't work as well as they used to.  The side affects are unacceptable.  My energy level is low.  I can't sleep through the night.  I feel tied to the toilet.  I feel like I am 25% the person I used to be.

Although the surgery process may take 9 months out of my life, I will end up drug free on the other side.  Assuming no serious complications I will have energy and freedom.  I need freedom.  We all need freedom.

I'm in the process of weaning myself off from prednisone. Today I lowered the amount to 10mg. I had been at 15mg for more than a year. If my UC symptoms get worse as I come off from prednisone, I will take it as a sign that surgery is my only option. (Currently I am on Humira, taking the best probiotic and many other suppliments, and avoiding milk in my diet.)
