About Me
Wanted an active lifestyle - but struggled with ulcerative colitis for the past 25 years. Joined this site to help me decide about surgery. Life with UC and all the immune suppression drugs was too difficult. I missed having energy and being to eat a wider variety of foods. So, on August 10th I had surgery and became UC-Free Dave. Thanks to every one here at DS for helping me come to this difficult decision. I am now drug free and can eat just about anything I want to eat!

wondering how you're doing and hoping that there are no journal updates because you are out, about, and living life to the fullest!!! I'm back to Cleveland on Tuesday, pre-op Weds, and TAKE DOWN THURSDAY! YAY!!

Close Crohn's Disease & Ulcerative Colitis

Treatments
- Asacol Working / Worked
- Worked for awhile
- Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
- Avoiding milk products has helped a great deal recently!
- Azulfidine Working / Worked
- Worked several years ago... but seemed to stop working eventually.
- Colazal Working / Worked
- Worked for awhile
- Dietary Modification Somewhat Helpful
- Vegetarian diet did not work for me. Food combining is OK. Avoiding wheat and wheat gluten didn't have an effect.
- Humira Working / Worked
- After 14 months it still has a positive effect but not quite full remission.
- Lomotil Working / Worked
- Don't know if it works.... but I'm still taking it.
- Prednisone Working / Worked
- This drug has worked everytime, but the side affects are awful! Currently weaning myself off.
- Probiotics Working / Worked
- Some are better than others. Haven't found one that puts colitis into full remission.
- Purinethol Somewhat Helpful
- Worked for awhile, but stopped taking it due to joint pain.
- Remicade Working / Worked
- Worked for one or two treatments.
