The Road To Recovery Mood
Tuesday, October 13, 2009
Today is the 5th day after surgery and boy what a whirlwind of emotions that swept through all of us.  The surgery was 6 hours long but it went well.  The doctors corrected Piper's curve by 50%.  It doesn't sound like alot but it really is a substantial correction on her curve.  Starting with a curve of 28 degrees 6 years ago to a 54 degree curve in June and in the last 3 months it jumped another 10 degrees.  They worked on her spine from T4 to L2 placing rods and fusing the vertebra.  Three days ago I thought we would not get through this but now at day 5, it has suddenly turned around for the better.  I remember reading in the books, take one day at a time and what a difference a day makes.  Just last night my darling daughter crying in agony.  After getting up today for physical therapy, getting in her own Pajamas and looking in the mirror at her newly straightened elongated torso, she is feeling better.  The trick to this pain management thing is to keep the meds in your system and don't skip on any of them.  Tell the nurses to wake you if you are sleeping.  My daughter passed the physical therapy tests today and we are expected to go home tomorrow if and only if she is off of the oxygen.  She is having some issues with her breathing deep enough.  Of course she would, she just had her upper back reconstructed

Count down Mood
Saturday, October 3, 2009
OK, the countdown has begun.  Six days and we will be getting this thing over with.  We are both so nervous and I am exhausted already.  I know after tomorrow and my last day at work will make a huge difference.  I will sleep in on Sunday and be prepared for an extra long day on Monday at the hospital.  two more days of school for piper and then we will be at the hospital on October 8th.  Keep us in your prayers.

I know you're nervous, I was very nervous and scared, I still remember even though it will be 30yrs on Nov. 1st. Everything will be fine and the worst of it will be over soon. They will take good care of her. I'm here if you need to talk and I will keep you in my prayers.

Journal Entry for August 14, 2009 Mood
Friday, August 14, 2009

So it has been a while since I last even checked DS.  I can see some new friends and that is a great feeling.

Today the Surgery was scheduled for October 8th 2009.  The Doctor is terrribly busy at this time.  Most scoliosis patients get the procedure done during the summer to allow for the recovery.  My daughter will start school next week to get aquainted and get to know the teachers and what is expected for 7th grade.  Then the surgery and recovery time.  The Doctors say expect somewhere around eight weeks.  I sure hope she can keep up with the school work.

I have not told her yet, but will in the next few days.
