About Me
I'm an RN, work several jobs varying my physical activity to reduce fatigue risk and allow for productivity during flares. Single mom most of my son's 21 yrs, strong bonds with friends, family and active in professional groups. Learning to step out as a fairly new single woman and join special interest groups such as photography to learn new things and remain engaged in all aspects of life. Very passionate about many things that keep me focused outside of my life and avoid "sick" mode.

Close Fibromyalgia
An RN who was diagnosed with undifferentiated connective tissue 20 yrs ago, 15 yrs ago diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Blessed with excellent medical and non-traditional therapy practioners over the years that have helped me to remain as functional as possible. I am doubly blessed with many opportunities to provide education and support to others with the syndrome. I struggle like everyone else that has this syndrome, I just refuse to let it define who I am and overshadow my relationships.
Treatments
- Acupressure Working / Worked
- Have used this alot when specific muscle groups where knotted up. Definately helps interupt the pain signal and with a little massage opens up circulation and reduces the swelling/inflammation. Painful though.
- Acupuncture Working / Worked
- Was incredible, also was great to see Meridian readings that showed where energy levels were low, where extra help was needed. No side effects
- Aqua Therapy Working / Worked
- Always good, helps reduce swelling by reducing inflammation, helps improve ability for range of motion and some exercise by decreasing resistance. No side effects
- Elavil Not Working
- Hated amitriptyline, couldn't function because it made me way too groggy
- Guaifenesin Not Working
- Have tried this therapy, didn't notice a difference. I do use this in high doses when secretions are thick during asthma flare or sinus infection. NO side effects
- Heat Working / Worked
- Heat works if certain tender areas get really cold. Pain is excruciating if chilled (i also have bursitis on both hips and very affected by cold).
- Morphine Working / Worked
- Oxycontin is only oral pain med that has helped cut through and get relief. Used only as a last resort. No side effects
- Neurontin Working / Worked
- Works the best at the end of the day when everything is locked up. Really decreased PM muscle spasms.
- TENS Working / Worked
- Used while in therapy and helps.
- Ultram Not Working
- Never worked for me
- Inversion Therapy Working / Worked
- Works like a charm if used consistently to stretch out muscles and help realign spine, knees and if you hold your arms over your head will even stretch out shoulders. Does not take the place of full out stretching exercises but made a huge difference in my routine.
- Provigil Working / Worked
- Was falling and having trouble with large muscle fatigue. Within 30 days of taking this drug, now only have the fatigue during flares.
- Valium Working / Worked
- Along with oxycontin this is the last line of defense for pain and muscle spasms for me. Works every time. I usually take 5mg (2) of oxycontin and 5-10mg of valium.
