i had gastric by pass surgery on may 4, 2009 Up until the day of surgery i hadn't picked what surgery to do i'm glad i chose the full surgery as i AM ON LESS MEDS FOR MY DIABETES AND ALSO STILL HAVE high cholesterol. i'm off SOME my medication AND vitamins now.IM AT 47% OF MY WEIGHT LOSS GOAL AT 5 MONTHS POST OP I've been married 29 years . i have 3 adult children and 3 grandchildren. i works as an RN ( but i can't apply any of my knowledge to my self)

Interests
My family and spending time with my grandkids. i have 2 doggies- a westie- Zoe(3yo), and a scotty-April (1yo). i enjoy reading, camping, fishing, and now that i've lost weight- exercising! Walking and swimming are my favorites. i also love going to school and currently COMPLETED Legal Nurse Consultant course at UCR

I'm sure you can get the diabetes back under control. What an ignorant surgeon to tell you that you were 'cured'! But you're strong (gbs is no walk in the park) so you'll be OK. I'm rooting for you!

Don't worry. Take each day one day at a time. Stress and worry do odd things to us. Try exercising more. and count those blessings. You will be alright.

Close Gastric Bypass Surgery
i had surgery 5-4-09 and want to have an online support group
Close Diabetes Type 2
diabetic was told it was gone after GBS but 3 months post of it is still there and uncontrolled at the present i am very unhappy as i was in bliss for over 2months thinking it was gone....
Treatments
- Actos Not Working
- didn't help and then after being on it for over a year told i should have never been on it
- Dietary Modification Working / Worked
- plant eating the first 6 years worked but went back to meat....
- Eating Healthier Foods Working / Worked
- most of the time i eat healthy but the progression of the diabetes just wouldn't slow down and my highest sugars are from stress not food
- Glipizide Working / Worked
- didn't work dropped me out and didn't control...
- Glyburide Working / Worked
- worked for awhile then didn't went above the recommended dosage and still not effective so got put on Lantus
- Insulin (Regular and NPH) Working / Worked
- did the nova pen before meals worked sometimes but had alot of low am- mostly around 4am not a good time for anything!
- Lantus Working / Worked
- worked but at high does of 8o twice a day restarting at 10 in hs and adding until stable wishing this time it is a much lower dose since i lost over 70lbs!
- Metformin Working / Worked
- terrible ended up in the hospital and passed out twice due to hypovolemia caused by the metformin- on my allery list now
