      From Stegar October 21

thanks so much. I pray for you every night. I'm afraid all this is beginning to take it's toll on me physically and mentally and I'm getting really frightened. I'm beginning to apply for Medicaid for my Mom. Her Medicare is managed by HIP and does not cover any home services. Mom does not have much but what she does have is too much. I went to an eldercare attorney. The application is copious, requires all sorts of proof of identity, birth/baptismal certificates, marriage certificates, my Dad's deat certificate, proof of Social Security, bank statements etc. I was surprised that Mom had most of these, except she lost her Social Security card and it's a nightmare getting a new one. I also have to prepay her funeral, which I just can seem to bring myself to do. I know it's the right thing and I will have to do it before this application is filed but I'm just not looking forward to it.

Hi there. Yes I was in the same place as you are. Mom's memory was getting her into trouble, with the law, driving etc. She would not accept it and made up excuses. Over time and a lot of explaining, I told her that it is common in older people and she is not alone. Elderly hate to lose any part of their independence and we must be patient and make changes slowly. Yes you are now the parent in the relationship. I am also, but the fact is I never had children and didn't want any because of the responsibility.

      Stay strong and vent often!
