Twix dies. Mood
Monday, July 6, 2009 | A Painful story

Besides dealing with the never-endng battle of losing weight, Twix was diagnosed with Parvovirus on Monday afternoon.

Apparently the pet store that sold him to my friend failed to ensure his health and sold him a very sick dog.

Parvovirus if not treated instantly is deadly to puppies under five months, and our Twix was only 11 weeks old. He died on Thursday afternoon.

Parvovirus is passed from dogs to dogs. If there is a dog living in your home with parvovirus, YOU can pass the virus along to other dogs by not disinfecting your shoes and clothes. Traces of the virus can be found in anything a parvovirus laiden dog could have touched. There are no studies showing any cases of parvovirus in humans. Cats do have a feline parvovirus however.

Not only do we have a medical bill for our sick puppy, but our friend is out money and the pet shop is still in business possible selling dogs to other unsuspecting buyers.

Please protect yourself when purchasing a pup and buy from a private breeder who can guarantee the dog's health.

Do not purchase dogs from Puppy Boutique in Brooklyn, NY.

Also a reminder to folks to vaccinate your puppies.

I am sorry you ended up having to deal with a sick parvo pup. I worked at a shelter, and it was hard to watch puppies die from this horrid disease. It can stay alive in your house and yard for up to 4 years, so it is best not to bring in any young pups not fully vaccinated to your house hold.

If you decide to get another pet, consider choosing an adopted dog from a sheltor or rescue group that is fully vaccinated and not too young (so it has built up the antibodies it needs).

Again I am sorry you had to experience losing a puppy to parvo.HUGS.
