Now, here I stand
Alone
With dark night
and shadowy forms
Stroking and caressing me
My mind plays tricks
incessantly
With fleeting shadows
here and there
Shades of memories -
I despair -
Of the words ingrained:
'what could have been.'
Was my life
but just a dream?
And then I see
yet another shade
Of a time gone by
when I could have made
you my wife
But such beauty there
Was never really
Mine
to share
You faded away
from my memory
To love another
never to be me
And yet other shadows
pass me by
Caught from the glimpse
of a worn-out eye
Of happy times
such gaiety
Would never last
inside of me
I reach out
in my dark despair
Fall to my knees
say a prayer
And everything that
has been a part of me
Passes me by
so silently
And like a silent movie
upon my wall
in despair
I view them all
And once again,
from the embers dying light
I am left
