I’m still poking around 2 Cor. 12:9-10, two verses that may be hard to incorporate into our American belief system.
He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
My DS friend Margie set me thinking about the closeness we feel to God when we’re weak with suffering. Several cancer survivors have mentioned to me that, terrible as their suffering was, the bond they felt with Jesus was so intense during their most trying times that they actually think it was worth it. I got the feeling that they can’t quite find that beautiful place now that they are well. I too sometimes experience intensities of love and peace coming from Him so that I’m often overwhelmed. He’s revealed Himself to me in tiny but real ways that make me laugh with Him and love Him even more.
I have to think some more about what it means to have His power when we’re weak...

Becki - I've been doing some digging into this passage since I read your journal entry this morning, and I intend to do some more. It's my thought that only in our weakness do we have to rely on the strength of God, and that when we are not at our weakest point, we tend to rely on ourself rather than on Him. So the only time we realize the full power of God is when we have no strength of our own to rely on. Thoughts... - Karen
