Thought I might share my experience: March 5 2005, 2am woke to go to bathroom, almost fell lost balance but did not fall, returned to bed, could not lift left arm, "stroke of paralysis" came to mind, scared, woke my wife to go to ER, took 2 aspirin, really high BP, ER medicated and lowered BP, this was 5am on Friday moved to regular room about 9am, given aspirin, visited occasionally by nurse and rarely by Doc. had me squeeze finger with left hand, physical therapist came and walked me down the hall twice, nothing all day Friday, except carotid, brain scan tests and all night, then Saturday at noon I observed to an intern that nothing had been done for me and that I wanted to go to different hospital. Shortly thereafter a real Doc appeared and started an IV with heparin fully 30 hours after being admitted. Monday morning my regular doc appeared (been on vacation all weekend) and sent me to a rehab hospital where I worked for 42 days to get released. When I was released I could transfer from wheelchair to chair, to bed, to car, to potty, to shower, bath myself, dress my self, feed myself, walk with walker, go up and down stairs, etc. I am very grateful for them and my doc for sending me. I did outpatient therapy 3 additional months, and continue at the gym still.I'm crippled left hand and have left drop foot. I had an AFO for almost 4 years until I learned about "Hanger Co's WalkAide", This electric stimulus device which I got in Feb 2009 has helped my walking immensely. I've learned that there are lots of treatments that really help that are not paid for by insurance. Each of us must judge for themselves how badly they want to get better and pay the price, including gym. At stroke time my carotid arteries were blocked, now after about 40 EDTA Chelation IV's they are clear and I have the tests that prove just that, as well as my legs no longer have PAD, I have the before after tests on this also. I no longer take coumadin, I have a friend who while on coumadin had stroke and my brother-in-law has had 2 strokes while on this save your life miracle drug and is now wheelchair bound. Coumadin destroys the molecules in the blood that causes clotting. As we age the blood loses the ability to clean up the excessive clotting. An enzyme "Nattokinase" quickly restores the bloods ability to deal with clots and clotting with no side effects. My doc calls these treatments "quackery" and explains my tests as done by incompetent testers.
