Hello everyone!
Returned from a wonderful, restful vacation. God willing, I am feeling much better. Got the part time job I applied for earlier. It's a new start! Most importantly, all my labs are normal for the first time in six months. Even my cholesterol dropped down from 267 to 205. I stopped the Levoxyl on May 29th due to the fact that I was experiencing hyperthyroid symptoms. The endocrinologist did not agree with my assessment of how I was feeling, but finally relented and agreed with me. So frustrating when you are the one going through it all. He ordered more blood work in a couple of weeks to make sure I'm not flipping to hypo. I continue to feel well, so I hope that won't be the case.
I also saw a Naturopathic physician for the first time to augment my care and she was great. She put me on a natural thyroid and adrenal support along with Vitamin B-complex, C, D3, fish oils, calcium, aged garlic (natural antibiotic), magnesium, probiotics, castor oil packs daily (detoxifying) etc.
I take at least a dozen supplements daily, but as long as they help, I don't mind. I started myself on a gluten-free eating lifestyle back in January '09 and did away with processed foods, unnatural additives, pesticides, food colorings, artificial sweeteners, etc. I eat three healthy meals and two healthy snacks daily and exercise several times a week. The naturopath said that was probably the single most beneficial thing I could have done. If you've read the book, "The Gluten Connection", it talks about how gluten can affect the thyroid gland. I've not been tested for gluten sensitivity, but going by how I feel, not having anymore bloat or gas and feeling so much better is enough reason to remain gluten free.
Prayer every day keeps my faith strong. I can't do any of this without God's help.
God bless everyone and have a healthy and happy 4th of July.

This is very helpful info. I've been wondering abt how a naturopathic physician would treat hypo disease. It's smart of you to consider going outside of an MD. I will consider everything you have said in your 7/4 journal. I'm dealing w/chronic fatigue. I miss the energy I use to have. I've been taking a multivitamin thanks a bunch.

Hi energylost,
I'm so happy that the information about my treatment from a naturopathic doctor was helpful to you. I also see a wonderful female endocronologist as well. She has never discounted any of the naturopathic (homeopathic) treatments, but works together with them and she has no issues prescribing dessicated thyroid replacement. About 4 weeks ago, I begin feeling very fatigued, etc. one day and hyper, etc. the next and couldn't understand what was happening to me. My doctor sent me for blood tests and the results confirmed her diagnoses of Hashitoxicosis or thyroid flare as some doctors call it. It was very discouraging as I had stopped exercising (walking) because of the fatigue and felt so anxious when I was feeling hyper. The doctor said that Hashitoxicosis can be brought on by trauma as well as other causes. I lost my husband only 8 months ago after a lengthy illness, so I feel this trauma may have caused it. But, I pray for strength every day and I hope to get things under control very soon because I know how good I can feel. Stay mentally positive as best you can and do all the "natural" things you can do to improve your health along with your physician's monitoring of your thyroid condition God bless and best of luck to you.
