My Baby Boy Dakota who was 4 months old. Dakota recently passed away, 1 week ago tonight. Dakota was born with many many birth defects his most serious was his heart. Dakota was born with a piece of the Chromosone 16 missing which caused several birth defects. he was born with half a heart, the right side of his heart did not develop and at 23 days old they put a shunt in Dakotas heart, to help lead the flow around. He was born with a eyeball missing so he was mostly blind, couldn't hear. so the short time with us Dakota had a very difficult life. But my little baby was sure a fighter. He fought to live those 4 months. He spent 2 1/2 months at Children's Mercy in Kansas City, and he was home the last month and 1/2. One week ago yesterday, we went to the Blind School CCVI in Kansas City, for them to do an assesement on Dakota, which went really good, they could tell he could see something out of his eye. We were halfway home and Dakota stopped breathing, he was facing me which he never laid that way before, his lips were purple, my cousin stopped the car and got out and suctioned his nose out and he started breathing again. Called 911 and the ambulane came and met us on the highway. They then Took Dakota and Me to Children's Mercy, they got his breathing better and his oxygen back to 70. Then last Wednesday afternoon his oxygen dropped down to 56 and I guess lack of Oxygen caused the shunt in his heart to fail. Dakota died last Wednesday night around 7 p.m. we had his funeral on Saturday. I'm still not taking this very well. I think I scared everyone the day of his funeral, I basically shut down, couldn't even talk for a while that day. I haven't eaten since last Wednesday, I can drink a shake but that's it. I feel sick to my stomach and don't have the desire to eat. My family has been here most of the week. My mom is coming back today for a while. I'm trying to get over this. But it is hard to even function normally. I start back to work tomorrow. Hope I can handle that, I can't even do normal household work. I miss Dakota so very much. I can't stop thinking about him.
