  I am sure you did everything you could. I have helped neighbors find their cats/dogs. We put up signs(miles from home as they can wander far), checked with local vets, shelters, put up signs at the schools, placed ad in newspaper, check with public works department, etc. I helped one family find their cat and low and behold he had gone into a doggy door, and was eating the dog food, and sleeping under their couch for several days before they discovered a tail sticking out from behind the couch and it was the missing cat. She had just moved into the nicest house she could find.....
  
  You want to keep the hope but also be realistic...not an easy task. I finally came to peace that my missing cat was either in another home or heaven. He was one of those cats who REFUSED to stay inside. He at through the doorframe one day when he had to stay in too long... He was a wanderer.
