    • About Me

I am a 45 year old breast cancer warrior, I refer to that term rather than "survivor" as I am always putting up a fight with this dreaded disease! I am trying to kick it's butt, working on it for 5 plus years.I am a nurse and am currently disabled and miss my job. I have 3 children, I've been married 26 years. I am passionate about breast cancer awareness, esp.in young women. I believe we are responsible for educating our selves about treatments. I founded and facilitate the breast cancer support group in my home town. I am the the Mom of 3 great adult children, 2 of which are United States Marines..ooh-rah! My oldest daughter is a Navy Veteran who was medically discharged after she was diagnoses with ALL, she has had 2 bone marrow transplants, she is also the mother of the sweetest littel girl and I love being her "me-ma". Happiness is being a grandparent!

    • Close Breast Cancer
      Stage: IV (M1)

I am 445years old, & have had breast cancer for 5+ yrs. I had invasive ductal, stage 3, had a lumpectomy, chemo and radiation, Briefly went into remission and then it came back in my lymph nodes. got rid of that with more chemo/herceptin and then it returned again in the form of inflammatory breast cancer, stage 4 Been on chemo for the most part of the past 3 years, too many to tell.brain tumor 3cm in April & had surgery, then another surgery for a brain infection and was in a coma for 3 days

      Treatments

      Adriamycin Somewhat Helpful
Used it twice, I have maxed out my life time limit of it. Effective the 1st time and helpful the 2nd time
      Xeloda Working / Worked
Not my friend either, caused had foot syndrome, but not as severe as with Doxil. It seems to be working well with the Tykerb to keep things somewhat under control. Mild hand foot problems. I lotion up my hands and feet real well at night and cover them up with socks and cotton gloves, I look like minnie mouse with the white gloves on. lol
      Abraxane Somewhat Helpful
It was the one drug after many to get my inflammatory cancer under control and it was a breeze as far as chemo goes.
      Adriamycin Somewhat Helpful
Used it twice, I have maxed out my life time limit of it. Effective the 1st time and helpful the 2nd time
      Gemcitabine Somewhat Helpful
      Not much luck with it
      Herceptin Working / Worked
worked initially, but my cancer grew back thru it the form of inflammatory breast cancer. It had no side effects for me.
      Navelbine Somewhat Helpful
Not bad, used it in conjunction with Herceptin and it got rid of the cancer in my lymphnodes, but my inflammatory cancer grew thru it
      Neulasta Somewhat Helpful
Horrible side effects, terrible body aches & then after my 5th dose I got septic.. my WBC went to 46,000! A rare reaction & it almost killed me. Spent 8 days in ICU
      Radiotherapy Somewhat Helpful
Did 35 rounds, it wasn't too bad, just tiring having to go every day. I had some mild burns but they gave me a good cream for it.
      Surgery Somewhat Helpful
lumpectomy and axillary node disection. Wish I had a mastectomy so I don't keep second guessing myself, as I had a recurrence in the same brest as well as the other
      Taxol Somewhat Helpful
      Tough chemo, worked well initally.
      Xeloda Working / Worked
Not my friend either, caused had foot syndrome, but not as severe as with Doxil. It seems to be working well with the Tykerb to keep things somewhat under control. Mild hand foot problems.
