    • About Me

I live in New Zealand which is great place to be except in winter when you have rheumatoid arthritis! This condition brought me to this site where I look forward to the cyber companionship of fellow sufferers. I work occasionally as relief teacher and am doing a bit of travelling before this syndrome makes that too difficult. My family are grown up but have bequeathed me their cats (3) whose geriatric status involves much nurturing and a degree of stress!

    • Thanks

      From bigiblue November 12

thanks. As it turns out Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas is my new Carrier and they can't refuse me for prior Health Issues because they took over the Contracts from Unicare. My Premium every month is $260.00 which is not bad. I still have to meet the deductible of $5000.00 before they pay 100%. I am from Germany originally and am very familiar with Public or Socialized Healthcare, and People who don't know much about it are3 very Scared. What they don't know is that it will help everybody and everybody will have Insurance without having to meet such high deductibles. They still will get the same care as they get now. I tell you I have had some really screwy Dr.'s and still have to pay them anyway, so it can't be much worse when the Health Reform passes. If you have bad Dr's now they still will be bad then too.
Thanks for understanding. I told my husband if things get too bad here for me to have the health care that I deserve then I would have to move back to Germany, or another Country where Health care is affordable. I would do it in a heartbeat. It's sad that a Country as big and prosperous as the USA can't come to terms when it comes to taking care of the sick.
      Thanks again, brigitte

Hi Suzi, I've been busy down in Perth the last few weeks and have not caught up with everyone of late. Hoping the travelling is going really well for you and that you are keeping well. Take care and catch up soon. Cheers.

Hey you, nice to meet you, I sure wish I could live w/where it is warm in the winter, I am positive the cold/wet weather makes my RA so much worse... anyway, yes I use to write, it was my passion, but no more, I wrote for the Village Gazette out of New York for 8 years, poetry books, so on, you can view a bit of my stuff still by doing a engine search, Viesta Barker or Viesta Morrison - again, very nice to meet you! • See You Later

      From MsCowgirl September 20

Hey Suzi - Wow, fancy being in Morocco, you lucky thing! Sorry to hear you had a rough start to your trip, but I'm glad you're over the worst of it. I heard that fasting too, alleviates a lot of RA pain. Only trouble is you cant do it forever! I hope you track down what foods make it worse, at least. Have a wonderful trip, lots of fun and some great experiences. I'm off to Kalbarri for a few days R&R this week. The Humpback whales are migrating down the coast and I hope to see some while I'm there. Even better if I can get some photos of them. Travel safe and catch you later.

Hi Camba. How was your trip to the UK? Hope you had a great time. Thank you for your welcome-home-hug. It's great to be back, being in the city was starting to get to us after 7 weeks. Is MTX helping you? I do hope so. My RA is about 50/50 right now on Humira, but I figure 50% is better than nothing. Look forward to catching up. Take care.

I am considered an energetic person but have slowed down since diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis in 2006. Was put on methotrexate, prednisone, vitamins and calcium. Living in NZ the medical care has some limitations and currently there is no specialist in my town which is the fourth largest in NZ so I havent seen one for a year. After 18months on methotrexate began getting migraines and at two years approx had a series of unhealthy liver results. I stopped taking it and six months later tried Arava (ie this January) but found bladder frequency and almost contraction like sensations and dry blood crusted and swollen nose unacceptable side effects. Possibly hair loss too. So stopped and condition deteriorating. Am gluten and dairy free.
