How could this possibly be so difficult? I awaken late at night or very early in the morning by either my heart beating fast or severe pain in my arms and shoulders. Most of the times they happen simultaneously. My PCP used to prescribe that for me, just 10 tabs at .25mg each, ever since my first "panic attack" back in April. For awhile there I was good, sleeping well etc., not needing them. But since July 5th, and every night since then for some crazy reason I get that severe pain in my arms and shoulders, and of course my heart starts beating. So that is the ONLY time I take a xanax tab. Well last I saw my PCP little over a week ago, I ask her for a refill. She says no, you're seeing a pain-specialist soon. He can refill it for me. I saw my pain-specialist yesterday. I mention it to him about the palpitations I get with my arm pain. He prescribes Savella for Fibromyalgia, but says I should contact my cardiologist to refil my xanax. Okay, I just spoke with my cardiologist now. He tells me flat out, that NO, it's not my heart that's causing my pain or really anything, just plain ANXIETY. Contact my PCP for that, who referred me to the pain-specialist!
So now people wonder why I hate doctors. Honestly I'm dropping by Walgreens as soon as I can, and I'll buy the STRONGEST sleeping pill, so I won't wake up with any more palpitations. If it weren't for my kitties, and I just adopted a new one, believe me I'm ready to implode and just fall into a very deep sleep.

Sleep is a problem for all of us. See if your pdr. will rx you lunesta. It is non habit forming and does help you get to sleep and stay thee. My dr has no problem giving me xanax. If you have anxiety you need xanzx or something like that.

I'm sorry for all the trouble your going through :( That's not right that your doctor is giving you a hard time about anxiety meds. You should really look into an SSRI, you probably wouldn't need xanax after that, they keep you calm 24/7- but they do take a month to start working. I just re-started mine, and i cannot wait till they kick in. I do not even take my klonopin when i have the SSRI's in my system, but i personally hated xanax and klonopin, they made me feel funny. I hope your doc can help you out soon, and if she doesnt help than maybe you should switch. I hope you have a good nights sleep tonight!

I use melatonin that my Dr recommended. It helps a lot, but not always. Some nights, I still wake up about 3 or so. But it made a lot of difference; before it was almost every night!
