thanks for your encouragement. I'm sorry to hear of your loss, I have a best friend who lost 2 children, one age 16 while a friend of his was driving too fast in a 25 mph zone, and the other one age 21 to cancer. I know how painful it is for her, and it's been over 20 years for her. So my prayers are with you :)

Cheers fawn, the sentiment about everything you wrote is so TRUE. Need to go out and Practice it and feel it. Unknown territory, but hey how will I ever grow if i do the things I have always don eh :-)) I will keep you posted. And again thanks for responding. I try to thank everyone who reponds to anything I write, particularly those who have tried to "listen" to what has been said. That takes effort, however it does have an impact and it means something.

Enjoy your evening. ....or whenever. Not sure where you come from in this world of ours. Could be the morning where you are. Anyway, "Hasta Luego" and "Gracias"
      Dave

    • Close Physical & Emotional Abuse

Born into a high profile family that had many forms of abuse behind close doors. I went on to be in abusive relationships in my adulthood. I have complicated P.S.T.D and have h it a bottom.

      Treatments

      Abuse Counseling Somewhat Helpful
I have been in treatment for various reasons and using various styles of therapy. It is complicated by my continuing experiences of different forms of abuse in my life.
      Art Working / Worked
I had learned without being taught that expressing myself creatively was a great way to get in touch with my inner world. But I also learned that not everyone would appreciate my endeavors.
      Divorce Working / Worked
My first husband was the "burning bed" type of abuser. I had to divorce him. It worked.
      Forgiveness Working / Worked
I found for myself forgiveness is important for my own recovery. But I need not forget what I had learned about each experience I had with an abuser. Abusers may not change so forgiveness doesn't mean forgetting it.
      Group Therapy Somewhat Helpful
this sometimes helped if we as a group did not commiserated each others experiences. A good facilitator I believe is most helpful in group settings.
      Leave Somewhat Helpful
The problem with leaving is that you take yourself with you. It is always good to leave a situation where the abuse is protracted and no one but yourself is seeking help. But if you do not continue a progressive journey towards self actualization you may be doomed to repeat patterns that keep you in abusive situations.
      Music Somewhat Helpful
Since a child I have always used music and dance as a way to expel pent up frustrations, fear, anger and sadness. I still us it. It is a temporary fix.
      Psychotherapy Somewhat Helpful
This helped me to identify triggers and such helpful methods to apply to healing.
      Talking Working / Worked
this is good because I learned the unwritten rules in my family. Don't talk, Don't feel and don't trust. Having a skilled listener is the best partner to talk to. This is a tricky situation. You have to find balance or you can talk yourself sick.
    • Close Codependency

I am involved with a man that has addiction problems. He is in treatment again and i have grown very tired of my own behaviors.

      Treatments

12 Step Program Working / Worked
I have been around al-anon for 20 plus years...but it is so easy to "drop out" and then get in trouble again. I need it back in my life. It works.
      CoDA Somewhat Helpful
I did a Coda work shop but never really went to regular meetings afterwards. It does work and is very informative.
Emotions Anonymous (EA) Working / Worked
When My son died I went to EA for a year. This is a great 12 step program .
      Music Working / Worked
This is something I always use to help with my moods.
      Pets Working / Worked
Not sure if this is a group but I have always found pets as a great source of helping me find peace of mind.
      Reading Working / Worked
I have read Melody Beattie and other self help books more than I can count. They help if you are motivated.
      Talking Working / Worked
This is great as long as you don't have someone who just wants to co sign things for you.
      \"Codependent No More\" Working / Worked
    • Open Multiple Personalities

because my symptoms are similar but I am not diagnosed with this disorder. I want to see if what I go through is similar or just looks like it is. I have always been a skeptic about this.
