About Me
I am 40yrs old and have been diagnosed with Narcolepsy & Cataplexy since 1991. Know my Grandad had it too but he was never diagnosed. Up until May this year I have worked for police force for 19 years & 6 months. I know exactly how long as they have just pensioned me off on ill health grounds. For the first 10 years I worked shifts in the control room and the next I worked in the intelligence unit. I loved my job but my condition is worsening and it was impossible to stay. What to do next.....?

Close Narcolepsy
40yrs, diagnosed Narc & Cataplexy in 1991 took dexamphetamines for 7 years (Awful! Better than nothing!) Been taking Modafinil since 1998 better than the others. Recently been to docs & found pituarty gland is making to much prolactin. Waiting for an MRI scan to see if I have a lump in gland or if it is because of Narcolepsy? Been pensioned off work on ill health grounds. Worked there 19.5 yrs. Just applied for DLA & been turned down. Try & keep upbeat as I know Narcolepsy is not leaving me!
Treatments
- Provigil Working / Worked
- Came off dexamphetamine in 1998 to take 400mg of Modafinil a day. Recently had dosage up'd to 800mg a day as was not working as well. Get really bad headaches which last days and make my face swell. Also get a bad back ache which occurs every morning wears off a bit after taking meds.
