Hug
I'm really glad I could help. I'm feeling the same way at the moment. I keep getting worked up about the smallest things. I went to the movies yesterday when I had a cold and had a great time. Usually if I am sick at all I would just flat out refuse to go or be constantly on edge, but I've sort of come to a point when enough is enough. You just get so determined for it not to take over your life. How are things with you?

Hi Zooey I'm sorry to hear that you are having a hard time with anxiety at the moment. I've had it since I was about 8, so I totally understand where you are coming from. One minute I can be very self-confident and the next I can be very sensitive. The best advice I can give you, is that if you really want to stop this before it gets out of hand, stop thinking bad thoughts. I know it's what everyone says, and it is easier said than done, but trust me, I've been through it even to the point of panic attacks and agoraphobia, and the only way you will be able to beat this is with your own will power. Drugs are an easy and helpful way to deal with things in the short term, but if you want long term relief, cut yourself some slack, chill out, and every time you catch yourself thinking something bad, take a few deep breaths, and try some methods to counteract those thoughts. For example, you mentioned "what if I get attacked at work?", change that to "what if someone brings me flowers at work?" or "what if a co-worker brings me lunch?" or "what if I have a totally awesome day at work?" Or you can try putting up some pictures of things you love, and look at those every time you feel anxiety. Most importantly find out why the things you are anxious about scare you so much. Is it the thought of being vulnerable that gets to you? Is it the thought of being alone? Is it the fear of pain? I found getting to the root of the problem really helped me. Also, if you are religious or just believe there is something out there bigger than you, you can always ask for help. Take a few deep breaths and ask God, or Jesus, or whomever you believe in to help you feel more comfortable. I think the most important advice I can offer you is don't ignore it. If you ever want to talk about it feel free to send me a message or hug. You're not alone in this.
