    • Close Hearing Loss & Deafness
      Type: Combination

Hearing loss is common in my family, especially on my mother's side. I am a psychotherapist, coping with hearing impairment, anxiety and depression; seeking help with extreme frustration and feelings of inadequacy and resentment. I am trained in group and child therapy, am director of a drug treatment program and am in psychoanalytic training. Anything but one-on-one communication has become extremely difficult and I feel my livelihood is threatened.

      Treatments

      Hearing Aids Somewhat Helpful
I finally began wearing hearing aids (both ears) in 2002 at the age of 49, following several months of incapacitating hyperaccousis, brought about by a swimming incident. The hearing aids--and audiologist!--have always been unsatisfactory.
