im 15 years old and i was diganosed with eczema in april of 2009 a week after my birthday.
i was told to use hydrocrotsine cream with a high steriod precent. It worked for the most part, but i was only alowed to use it for 1 week. It was pretty much gone, and then it came back as soon as i stopped using it. only it came back bigger.
for the next month it was growing. i went back to the doctor and she told me to use vanos. but vanos is not covered by our insurance. so she gave me a bunch of samples. it worked quite well.
its was pretty much gone.. so i stoped useing it.. also right then i started taking flaxseed oil softgels, and switch to hypoallergenic soaps, and detergents. this worked wonderfully. my eczema was nearly gone. i was so happy. but then last night things turned the other way...
since its summer vacation from school, my mom asked me to do house cleaning each week, and she would give me a few dollars. well this consist of laundry, doing the dishes, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping and washing the floor. well i break things up for each day... and yesterday...i washed the floor...i believe that was the cause of my flare up last night and today.. the soap was not hypoallergenic...my arm is red with bumps on it and is extremely ithcy, and painful.
i can't believe this, i thought i had it controled...but then i forgot about the soap to wash the floor....grrr..im so mad at myself.
( i also use eucerin lotions daily )

Have you had allergy tests hun? I found out i'm allergic to so many things that start my eczema up including different foods (especially cheese), house dustmites, pollen, moulds in autumn, metals etc... Horrible! Huge hugs to you hun x

I'm the same way when I clean. The soaps always make me flare up. So make sure you always wear gloves when you do things like that.

Yes wear gloves, wash your hands after using any chemical, ans above all be really careful of what you come in contact with! Im sorry you are itchy...that sucks!

extensive house cleaning makes me break out too. the chemicals are really harsh on the skin. thankfully, i had two siblings who helped me when we had to clean the house or pick up sticks in the yard. You can't avoid irritants your entire life, but it is good to minimize how much contact you have with soap and water aside from good hygiene.
