Luna is feeling better since she was started her on the Piroxicam on Monday. It's a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory that also has cancer fighting properties. We are hopeful that this medicine will help her to remain comfortable and enjoying life for as long as possible. Her vets have said that some dogs do really well on Piroxicam... am hoping my sweet girl is one of them.
Have been giving her all her favorite treats and splurged on some high-end canned food which she is loving. So glad her appetite is back. We've also been doing frequent slow short walks around the neighborhood. She loves to smell everything... trees, plants, grass, you name it... being outside makes her happy and I feel good indulging her in her favorite pastime.
The overall prognosis unfortunately is not very good... probably 1-3 months though hopefully the Piroxicam will extend that. I plan to keep her as happy and comfortable as I can and will be in regular contact with her vets so we can adjust her meds as needed. Also have been running the AC night and day as it helps her breathe easier. Just need to keep a sweatshirt & blanket handy so I don't freeze... and will worry about the high electric bills later.
Thanks again everyone for your kind words. It really means alot. This is such a hard thing to face and knowing that others understand really helps.
