About Me
I like to learn new things, mostly about fixing electronics and cars. I'm in that stage of having finished school, starting a new career, and entering that "next stage of life".

High Five
I have only read his ebook and I found it really good. I am quitting cold turkey because they say i shouldn't use patches because of my thyroid (i shouldnt smoke either for that matter). plus since i only smoke 1-2 a day it might be pointless as the patch would prob give me more nicotine then i already get?? The hardest thing for me so far is the physical cravings i am getting form the nicotine withdrawal. when it comes close to the time that I usually have a smoke (about 5pm) i start to feel a shortness of breath pretty bad for about 4hours constantly (not everyone gets this it seems) Sucks cos it feels just like the shortness of breath i get with my panic attacks. anyway the smoking board say physical cravings only last about 7 days then it is all mental. I think once i get past the physical part, it shouldn't be to bad for me as i only had a couple a day anyway and will just need to distract myself in the evening. now seems like a good time for me as my dad is staying for me over the next 3 weeks and he doesn't know i smoke! and my uncle died last week from a smoking related illness, so has given me a bit of a wake up call. hope you can join me soon :)..... hope i can keep this up ahhhhhh

Close Anxiety
I have been working through this anxiety problem for almost 5 months now. I find reading helps me to learn more about it and new techniques to use to get me through it. I believe acceptance vs. resistance to be a key factor in getting through this. I hope to be mostly symptom free by/before the end of the summer.
Treatments
- Ativan Working / Worked
- I have found this drug to be the only one that helps to manage my general anxiety of all the other medications I've tried. I have been on a low dose of .5mg 3x/day for about 3 months. Where I was very sensitive to other mediactions I found this to have the fewest side effects other than fatigue in the beginning, but it didn't knock me out like other meds, or cause strange sensations like SSRI's were.
- Breathwork Working / Worked
- Is helpful for me in the early early stages of panic onset. beyond that and in a full blown panic episode it doesn't do much for me other than give me something to focus on.
- BuSpar Working / Worked
- I probably didn't give this drug enough time to work. I tried it as a replacement to an SSRI (Celexa) that I had bad side effects to. Within the first 24 hours of taking the drug I began feeling a sensation as if my shirt collar was too tight and decided to eliminate variables and take myself off all meds (except the Ativan/Lorazepam) which seems to be the only thing to help me so far. I will say this is working/worked because my girlfriend has been on it for 2 years and it's done wonders.
- Celexa Not Working
- I thought it was working in the beginning but I began to exhibit side effects to the medication resulting in dizzy spells and what can best be described as a elastic band being around my head. This intensified for about 2 weeks after coming off the medication and then slowly went away.
- Klonopin Somewhat Helpful
- Was very strong, pretty much in the begging phases of the acute anxiety I had it helped me to sleep at night as I went nearly a week with very little sleep before trying this medication on a dose that would help me rest.
- Meditation Working / Worked
- Rest is critical to get yourself on the right track. I haven't tried mediation so much as relaxation tapes which helped me quite a bit in the beginning to stabilize my thoughts.
- Positive Thinking Working / Worked
- And acceptance, are critical to a begin to manage and hopefully recover from anxiety. It is easy to think that you will be "stuck this way forever" but see a doctor, talk about your problems, get on a good medicine that works for you, and read, read, read. When I read I find it's all I can focus my attention on, and the "crazy thoughts" stay away. I've experienced a few good stretches of time where I've felt a near complete return to my former self, and remember this during each set back.
- Trazodone Working / Worked
- I also tried for sleeping in the early stages of anxiety but it gave me a strange tingling sensation in my forehead along with dizziness that created more anxiety for me.
