    • Close Spina Bifida
      Type: other

It seems impossible to try to tell my story in 500 characters. I was born with myelomenigocele (L4-L5). I have had multiple surgeries and other treatments along the way. I am looking for others who can relate to my experiences.

    • Close Depression
      Type: Clinical (Major) Depression

I was diagnosed with depression at 15 due to delayed reaction of a traumatic event when I was 12. I have been living with it ever since. some days are better than others.

      Treatments

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Working / Worked
Has worked and is still working for me
      Cymbalta Not Working
Wasn't on it too long. Made me too nautious and at the time I couldn't stick it out
      Effexor Working / Worked
I was on this med probably the longest of all the meds I have been on. Lasted a good few years. They had to keep increasing the dose over time and eventually I had to switch to another med.
      Paxil Not Working
felt really tired and drugged on paxil
      Prozac Working / Worked
      Psychotherapy Working / Worked
      Wellbutrin Somewhat Helpful
Once I got past the nausea it worked. I developed some strange side effects but they disappeared over time. Had I stayed with it this one probably could have continued to work pretty well.
      Writing Working / Worked
I love writing. Sometimes it makes me think more which is not always a good thing but most of the time just being able to put pen to paper helps me organize my thoughts and validates what I am feeling.
    • Open Hydrocephalus

      Treatments

      Shunts Working / Worked
Have had the same shunt most of my life and so far so good
    • Open Bereavement
      Type: Loss of a Parent

lost my dad 15 days after my 12th birthday. He had bone marrow cancer and then a stroke. I miss him a lot even 10 years later.

      Treatments

      Crying Working / Worked
sometimes it works, sometimes I just feel worse, but I think its good to get it out
      Grief Counseling Somewhat Helpful
I went to a grief support group years ago but didn't find it very helpful
      Music Working / Worked
A lot of the time the music I listen to when I'm grieving is sad. So I cry. Sometimes I feel better afterward.
      Pets Working / Worked
I have had many pets over the years, they are a comforting companion most of the time.
      Poetry Working / Worked
I wrote some poetry when I was about 15 or so. It helped me at the time.
      Psychotherapy Working / Worked
I am still working on a lot of issues connected to my dads death. It is nice to have the support of a professional to deal with it.
      Remembering Working / Worked
Remebering is bittersweet but I appreciate the moments when I can tell one of my dads jokes and laugh instead of cry.
      Talking Working / Worked
Its nice to be able to just vent and have people there to be supportive and listen. Makes me feel not so alone.
