I'm a 39year old stay at home mom. I have a 9yrs old daughter that has FAE. Fortunatly she was 6weeks old when I adopted her. But we still have all the emotional problems. I home school her as she really battles with her short term memory. Thankfully she is generally a good little girl,friendly,kind very caring,and happy.BUT then we have our days.Until last year I was a single mom. We got married and i have had a little boy 7months old.He is also my miracle baby as I have PCOS.My chidren are my life. I have had a really bad few years after a serious car accident....loads of meds and migral status. With the result I gained LOADS of weight. I am seriously overweight and battling to lose weight. I went off all meds and have overcome the migrains.I have PCOS which adds to thelack of weight loss. I love reading, swimming,entertaining,cooking and web surfing.

Thank you for the message. Actually I'm try ito get her back in the hospital she moved out and hasn't had any meds for a long time. She's become very ill again. She and her boy friend came here Monday and were threating and took my car.. Because my husband was out of town I went to a hotel for the night.. I haven't seen her since but her psychiatrist wants her in the hospital..I thI'll heve to trick her to come home. Thank you for support, I hope thins are going well for you. I'm not

Treatments
- Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
- I think is would have still been a mess if it were not for my mom and sister. The meds had me so high and all of them had migrain as side effects. After 5 years of pethadine etc i went to a pain clinic. Here they sent me for physio and a year later I went off all the meds. My family were there all the way helping with my daughter and looking after me. During this time my daughter was my little angel. It was only as she got older did we realise how severe the short term memory was.
Close Adoption
My daughter was 6weeks old when I got her. She was left for dead and in a really bad way. her biological mom was a 16 year old prostitute that drank while she was pregnant. My daughter has FAE. I had her in foster care for 2 years and then adopted. It was the happiest day of my life. her biological mother made no attempt to see her as a baby. Until a year ago she never asked any questions as to why we were "different" . I have never lied to her, just proteced her from the gory details.
Open Homeschooling
My daughter has FAE and battles with her short term memory, she is 9yrs old and can only read a few words. With homeschooling,i can atleast monitor her good and bad days.
Open Obesity
I have always had issues with my weight. as a youngster I suffered with bulemia. Silly, i was not even overweight then. I have tried various options, 10 years ago I was in a car accident and given the wrong treatment. So for 7 years I went from medication to medication ,dress size to tent size . I have PCOS but was fortunate enough to fall pregnant.......and yes i blew up and now 7months later have not come down. I am desperate!!!
Treatments
- Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Somewhat Helpful
- It worked for awhile, but then stopped and I gained again. I was weak and faint and really moody.
- Meridia Working / Worked
- I was on reductil for 2 years, I lost weight very slowly but had headaches. so i stopped, and gained all plus some weight again.
- Slim-Fast Working / Worked
- This worked well, but then i started eating "normally" again and gained more weight back.
- South Beach Diet Somewhat Helpful
- This was a great detox, I did lose some weight ,but not much.
- Swimming Too Soon to Tell
- I used to be a swimmer when I was younger, i have started swimming again and doing water arobics.
- Topamax Not Working
- I lost so much weight, it was wonderful. The "metal taste in my mouth stopped the gassy drinks. i wasn't hungry. apart from the headaches and metal taste this was great.
- Weight Watchers Working / Worked
- This worked well!!! But I was not discipined enough to keep on. To much food.
Open Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
My daughter has FAE,she is 9 yrs old. her short term memory has been really bad. But we have our days, and it does seem to get better in certain things. As she gets older she gets more emotional, but is a pleasant,happy little girl. i'm greatful that she was 6 weks old when I got her. She exhausts me with the constant chatter and nagging.

Open Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
I have had a hormonal imbalance since I was 13years old. 4 years ago I was diagnosed with PCOS. i could not understand why i was not losing weight. I had gotten used to not menstruating. I have pain constantly since I had my son 7 months ago(;-) How do you ever fully overcome PCOS???
Treatments
- Metformin Somewhat Helpful
- I never really lost weight, I used it while I was pregnant as well. I possible should continue to see?
- Oral Contraceptives Not Working
- This never helped. I just gained and bloated out.
