Close Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
I have had CFS for 22 years. I have at one time or another experienced most of the really weird symptoms. I would like to get some advice on sleep and pain and I am happy to give any thoughts as I have been sick for a very long time.
Treatments
- Cymbalta Working / Worked
- Good anti-depressant (SSRI?) - does help somewhat with sleep.
- DHEA Somewhat Helpful
- This was back in 2000, and (like all of you) my memory is not good. I think it helped because there was no DHEA in my blood and very little in my saliva. No side effects.
- Klonopin Working / Worked
- Helps with the anxiety and depression. No side effects.
- Pain Management Clinic Not Working
- The pain clinic I have been going to lately is terrible. A good pain clinic is a VERY good idea for CFS people in pain. Narcotics cause a lot of constipation - use a fiber supplement like Miralax. Miralax is superior to Citrucel, Metamucil, etc. and you can take it forever with no problems. Some narcotics cause dizziness and nausea. Lie down when you first start taking them and you will feel better. These problems do not last very long as you continue taking the drug.
- Paxil Working / Worked
- Woked well as a mild anti-depressant. Not much good for sleep. No side effects.
- Zoloft Working / Worked
- Took it for Bipolar Disorder - worked very well and would probably work for CFS. Side effects - bad nightmares. Loss of sex drive.
- Lyrica Not Working
- Terribel drug! For some people it helps pain with no side effects. I gained 7 pounds in a week my ankles and feet swelled up to 2 12 times their normal size and the pain reduction was minimal.
- Restoril Working / Worked
- Restoril works well for sleep.
Close Fibromyalgia
I have CFS and FM. I have been sick for a very long time. I try to find out as much as I can so I can help myself. I also like to help other people that are feeling bad.
Treatments
- 5-HTP Working / Worked
- I thing it is probably good for sleep. I used to take Tryptophan before they banned it.
- Acupuncture Considering
- I would like to hear from others about acupuncture. I have tried so many other things already.
- Cymbalta Working / Worked
- I took this for bipolar disorder. It helps quite a bit for depression and it is supposed to help with pain. (I didn't have bad pain when I was taking this)
- Elavil Working / Worked
- I took this a long time ago when my bipolar mania was not bad. It is a good sleep agent.
- Gabitril Too Soon to Tell
- I have been taking this for a while and I do not know what it is doing if anything. I would like to hear from others about their experience with Gabitil.
- Heat Working / Worked
- Helps my back a lot. I just bought a new pad that is very large and very flexible. No more scrunching plastic. It also has an auto-off feature and is machine washable. $12.63 at WalMart. Walgreens is $28.
- Lyrica Not Working
- I hate this drug. My feet and ankles swelled up 2 1/2 times their normal size, I gained 7 pounds in 2 weeks and on top, I got no pain relief.
- Morphine Somewhat Helpful
- Morphine makes me feel strange and makes me itch. I tolerate Oxycodone and Hydrocodone better.
- Neurontin Working / Worked
- This helped me when I had severe headaches. It doesn't work as well for anxiety.
- Ultram Working / Worked
- This is a pretty good middle of the road pain med. I take it every day along with other narcotics and Ibuprofen. I have had no side effects.
- Vitamin B12 Working / Worked
- I used to get these injections - I think that they were helpful.
- Zanaflex Somewhat Helpful
- I take this now - it is supposed to help me fall asleep. I sleep so little (no more than 2 hours straight since January) that I cannot really tell if this is working. It hasn't bothered me though.
- Restoril Working / Worked
- This seems to help some with sleeping.
- Atarax Working / Worked
- Seems to help some with sleeping although it is a prescription antihistamine.
