67 year old male diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis in May 2008 (swallowing and speach difficulty). Had Thymectomy at Georgetown University hospital June 16, 2008, in spite of having no thymoma, per article by Dr. Blair Marshall, chief of thoracic surgery. Taking Prednisone. Started out with 30mg Mestinon every 4 hours. Have had two Intravenous Immune Globulin treatments at Walter Reed Army Hospital July 2008 and November 2008, after Aetna refused to approve. Autoimmune antibody numbers, which were off the charts last May, are down significantly. Now taking almost no Mestinon (15mg some mornings at 10am, and prior to evening activity outside home).

Treatments
- IVIG Working / Worked
- Hard to know how much IVIG has helped.
- Mestinon Working / Worked
- Started taking 30mg Mestinon every 4 hours around the clock. Had to take it at 2am in order to be able to swallow next Mestinon at 6am. Severe gastric side effects. Now take almost no Mestinon (15mg some mornings at 10am if I feel I need it, and 15mg in evening before activities outside home)
- Thymectomy Working / Worked
- Removed laparoscopically at Georgetown University Hospital June 2008. Nicked lung, leading to pneumothorax (air between lungs and chest wall). Spent three days in ICU getting lungs reinflated.
- Prednisone Working / Worked
- Started on 60mg Prednisone per day now at 50mg and 30mg on alternate days.
