I'm a nurse, happily married for 22 years and the mother of 3 teens. I had my open RNY on April 13, 2009 and I have over100 lbs so far. My life has changed so much since then. I used to walk with a cane and took long-acting morphine twice a day. I threw away the cane because these days I treadmill walk about 7-8 miles every day - and really look forward to it! I'm returning to my athletic-self. My fibromyalgia has gone into remission since my surgery, so I can be as active as I like! My diabetes has also resolved....after 6 years on an insulin pump plus an industrial dose of metformin every day! No more hypertension, GERD, or sleep apnea. I have a quality of life now - I never regret my decision to have the WLS!

Knitting (I'm absolutely addicted to knitting socks!), sewing, swimming, hiking and camping. I love all types music and singing as well. I studied for the M.Div degree and really enjoy learning about different paths of spirituality!

Thank you!! I live in Ontario - having the surgery at Barix with Dr. Schram. I had a mini melt down this morning - it's all hitting me now. I know I want to do this, but it's such a life changing event. I also have to be away from my girls for 2 nights - doesn't seem like much, but my 8 yr old is having a hard time with it. Oh for it to be all done and over with!

With a BMI of 50, I had asthma, an insulin pump for my diabetes, celiac disease, uncontrollable high blood pressure and fibromyalgia. I had my surgery April 13/09 and within 4 days no longer had high blood pressure or diabetes. I went from the biggest dossette of meds, to only a couple of pills a day. AMEN!
Recently my 15 yr old daughter was dx and hospitalized with severe bipolar. She's home but anything but stable. Now her 17 yrs brother (a former brain cancer pt who is also blind and epileptic) has also been dx with bipolar. I can barely cope! I need to find some kindred spirits
