same old story
So, AF came again, right in schedule. I was hoping that last month's possible chemical pregnancy was going to increase my chances …
I am 34 years old, happily married for three years, unhappily getting over having two miscarriages in 4 months. The first was at 12 weeks, the day before Christmas 2008; the second was at 10 weeks in April 2009. Both were discovered on ultrasounds with no heartbeats and required D & Cs. Both had been alive and healthy on ultrasounds at 8 weeks. I have no living children yet. It was discovered that I am homozygous for MTHFR, a gene that predisposes for blood clots and possibly miscarriages; whether or not this had any effect on my miscarriages is unknown. My second baby was found to be a girl that had Turner's syndrome on autopsy, which is 99% lethal in utero, and causes probably 15% of miscarriages. So that was likely the cause of miscarriage number two. Cause for miscarriage number one is unknown. There's not supposed to be much chance for having two babies with Turner's, but my two miscarriages were so identical that it makes me wonder. I also do have Sjogren's syndrome (a cousin of lupus that affects mostly the eyes causing dryness), but usually women with Sjogren's syndrome do fine while pregnant, assuming they don't have anti-phospholipid antibodies or other antibodies which could harm the fetus (I've been tested many times, and I don't have any). I am also borderline hypothyroid, and I keep my TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) under 2.00, which has been shown to help with infertility and support healthy pregnancies. I am a physician, but I'm a general internist (aka primary care doctor for adults), so my knowledge of OB and infertility is somewhat limited and I'm learning along the way just like everybody else. Current plan is to try again in July, after meeting with high risk OB specialists again in June to see if they recommend any more testing.

good food, hiking, wine, reading, spending time with friends, kayaking. The profile picture of me was taken on our honeymoon in Italy. I'm on a vineyard in Tuscany, sipping a glass of Chianti and watching the sunset. I am entirely content and peaceful in this photo, which is why I chose it. I'm trying to get back to that place of serenity.

Two miscarriages in the last 4 months, one at 12 weeks and one at 10 weeks. Both were missed miscarriages (discovered at ultrasounds to have no heartbeat). Both of my pregnancies were perfectly normal on ultrasound at 8 weeks, but it appeared that by dating the size of the fetus, that both babies died between 9 and ten weeks. I have no other children. I am 34 years old, and having a pretty hard time with this.
Trying to conceive again after two miscarriages.
