Work has a way of doing this to us. It is the build up of cortisol that sends us into a frenzy for up to 12 hours after the initial panic or stress. I will be praying for you. In the meantime, the best way to cut down on the cortisol is to take a nap. Easier said than done I know, but it does help. And talk to the doctor about any med changes. You might just find that some lifestyle changes like just relaxing with no t.v., radio, computer, etc. an hour before bed can help better than a med increase. Believe me, I've been there.

Boy do I know that feeling on vacation-- Here you want to be having a great time and all you feel like doing is resolving the sleep problems. Remember we are all thinking of you and wishing you well.

    • Close Insomnia

A few times a year, I hit month-long patches of bad insomnia. I stopped taking Zoloft in preparation for trying to get pregnant, and it was as if my body completely forgot how to sleep. After a few months of practically no sleep (and uncontrollable anxiety), I decided to go back on. Things are a bit better, but as my husband and I get closer to when we plan to start trying to get pregnant, my fear and shame about possibly taking medication while pregnant grows.

      Treatments

      Reading Working / Worked
Used to work really well. Now, not so much.
      Trazodone Somewhat Helpful
Works about half the time. Side effects are mostly dry mouth and feeling groggy the next morning. Definitely worth it, when it works.
      Xanax Somewhat Helpful
Seems to shut my brain off. But know I absolutely can't take it while pregnant.
    • Close Anxiety

Been dealing with anxiety for years, much of it the result of chronic insomnia. Was off medication for a few months, but now things are bad again. I'm back on medicine, and the anxiety has reduced, but I'm still having trouble sleeping.

      Treatments

      Breathing Exercises Working / Worked
      Paxil Working / Worked
Worked well when I was on it, but transitioned to Zoloft several months back in preparation of trying to get pregnant later this year.
      Trazodone Somewhat Helpful
Sometimes this helps my sleep/ cut down on anxiety. Usually not.
      Xanax Working / Worked
Works well, but afraid to keep taking it because I know it's habit forming. Also, can't take it when I'm pregnant.
      Zoloft Somewhat Helpful
Worked well before I tried to cycle off. These days, not so much.
