  I too should have had a brace when aged 11 - but Mum was seriously sick, & ignoreds Dr's advice. I now must get one & wish I'd been able to do so when young. There is now less than 1 inch between my right lower rib and my hipbone: I would not consider surgery on spine, but expect I shall have to have lower rib removed - trust me my dear - it gets worse, &, as in my case, did so in 4-5 years: In 2005 I was rushing around all right - now I hobble & have to use a stick. Trry to get a job that means you can do a lot of sitting down - being on your feet all day is bad - & your other p[ain may be related to you back problems too - Best wishes, JaneD.
