I currently am seeing a phycologist that is 45mins drive away. I have had no progress with her I feel she is a bit judgemental. don't know if i'm being paranoid. This is the third counsellor I have seen. I need someone who will take control and I don't want to be constantly feeling anxious about what I should be talking about. I need guidence. I need more than just talking about all my shit I need to know how to work through it. My phycologist knows that I have trouble remembering appointments and when I have missed one she doesn't contact me. I allways eventually remember and ring her. I would have thought that a patient who has depression and recently started meds you would worry when they didn't show up. I could be dead and she wouldn't know. I don't feel any support from her and my anxiety flares up when I go there. Which I thought was one of the reasons I was going there to get help with that.
So I'm moving soon and I'm not sure whether to keep seeing her until I go or start again somewhere else. I need some stabililty with it I'm more ready to start working through everything and I feel like I'm wasting time seeing her. She told me about Physcotherapy and how it is used when you are stable on meds but she has yet to start any of that I'd like to hear what anyone else has experienced hopefully that will help me find the right physcologist for me.

You need to ask her when you see her next when the pyscho therapy will begin, she isnt the right counselor for you by the sounds of it.it takes a while to get the right one for you, dont give up, keep trying xoxox

She doesn't sound like she is the right psycologist for you. If she makes you feel on edge, and is judgemental she can't be.
When you move...look for someone else. Contact a few and see what their response is to you.....choose someone you feel comfortable with. You need someone you feel safe confiding in.
If you want to work through things....I recommend looking up cognitive, behaviour therapy (CBT) Good luck. Let me know how it goes.

What type of counseling are you involved in? Sounds like psycho-therapy. Maybe look into cognitive behavior therapy, they give you homework to do and are very structured in how therapy is handled/conducted. Research one who specializes in your weakest thought, emotions and behavior patterns. IE - depression and anxiety. Just fire her now, and start attending AA and also Al-anon meetings to start addressing your "run and hide" habits. I mention last, because I am as guilty of running and hiding as any person using DS as a recovery/healing tool.

A counselor doesn't necessarily tell you how to work through something. They should try to steer you in the right direction and just give you a professionals point of view. If you don't like your counselor I would recommend changing. I didn't like my first counselor, and I switched to a new one and I'm so glad I did.. I like my new counselor a lot.
