Treatments
- Cut Up Credit Cards Working / Worked

- Earn Money Working / Worked
- How can earning money NOT help?
Open Families & Friends Of Addicts
Adult child of an alchoholic who struggled with multiple addictions when I grew up. I have a lot of experience in "recovery" and in what worked for me...and a lot of understanding. Also never hurts to have support even today.
Treatments
- Abuse Counseling Somewhat Helpful
- When in the thick of working on traumatic memories in therapy, I felt more triggered than ever to abuse substances. Anesthesia for the pain.
- Al-Anon Somewhat Helpful
- I learned a lot about the alcoholic family system. It was my first stop along a long path of healing.
- Patience Working / Worked
- The less you judge yourself and the more you have patience with outgrowing or overcoming addictions, the easier it will be to get to the other side.
- Psychotherapy Somewhat Helpful
- I identified why I wanted to numb my feelings, but talking about it all tended to bring up cravings to check out by using more.
- Talking Somewhat Helpful
- Sometimes helpful because relating to another person who struggled with addiction is a relief. But venting alone doesn't do it for me. I also need ideas that have made a difference for others. Not just talking about how hard it is.
- Writing Working / Worked
- Helpful because you see yourself more clearly and can identify what triggers your urge to self medicate.
- Detox Somewhat Helpful
- Rehabs get you out of the vicious cycle but the AA Way thrown down my throat was not helpful in keeping me well. I think there should be more solutions than AA alone.
