I am a full time student studying social work to work with adoption. I am engaged to a great man! We are getting married in January 2011! I had multiple pulmonary embolisms in both lungs in April 09. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and that has been tough dealing with the chronic pain. I have several health concerns but this site has helped me a lot. I am making it through somehow!

I can understand how tired and frustrated you must feel. I can't imagine trying to go to college with this "fibro fog" and sleep deprovation. You will make it , keep stong, keep going (I wish I had stuck it out all those years ago) you will make it you will make a wonderful social worker from what I have seen of your posts you are so warm and caring of others. Thank you for all of the great posts you have put up during ths short time I have been a member here you made me stop and think about my health problems and made me greatful I'm not any worse off than I am. Thanks April for that moving story. Even those of us with long-term chronic pain and illnesses can look around and find reasons to thank the Lord (or your own higher power) for the things that we are grateful for. Thank you, as well, for helping the man who was blind. It angers me when I see people ignoring someone who needs help, whether that person is blind, poor, "crippled" or those whose needs aren't as visible. Carry on, sister!!

My dear I am not imposing on your religious beliefs but you had an eye opening intervention from God to see the beauty around us.All of us are guilty being blind to the problem's and trials of other's then we see those thing's as you mentioned and realize we are but a drop in the vast ocean and each of us have our difficulties but some are more fortunate than other's. Close Pulmonary Embolism
My name is April and I am 29. I had severe chest pain and was sent for a CT of the chest in April 09. Right there they sent for an ambulance and I spent 8 days in the hospital until last night. I have multiple PE's in both lungs. I still have chest pain and I'm scared but I know I am safer now with the coumadin. I would love to talk to others in my situation. It's been rough. I also have a blood clotting disorder called Lupus Anticoagulant disorder. Thanks for your support.

I had Bilateral Pulmonary Embolisms in April and found out I have Lupus Anticoagulant disorder. I will be on Coumadin for life.

I like to talk about the experiences I have had and to help others. I had surgery and replaced the disc in my left side with tissue from my abdomen after my disc completely dislocated. It was a complete success but my right side is partially dislocated and when it completely dislocates I will need to have that one replaced as well.

Open Food Addiction
I have struggled with food my entire life but haven't always been over weight. There was a time in my life I was very fit and healthy. The last 6 years or so have been out of control and a constant struggle with obesity.

- Weight Watchers Working / Worked
- I am back on Weight Watchers for like the 5th time and I hope it works long term this time. I believe in the program. I just need to stick to it. I am getting married in January 2011 and dont want to be a fat bride. I hope to lose about 80 pounds before then.
Open Prescription Drug Abuse
After almost dying of bilateral pulmonary embolisms in April 09, I was given percocet for pain and quickly became addicted. I was using a lot. It was controlling my life and I knew I had to get clean. I went cold turkey at home and I have been clean since 7/20/09!

- Cold Turkey Working / Worked
- I quit cold turkey. I was very sick. The worst thing was not being able to sit still. I was ALL over the place. I had diarrhea stomach pains muscle pains insomnia runny nose etc. I could go on and on all day. It was like the worst flu ever times 100 plus not being able to sit still and wanting to jump through your skin. I never want to go through that again.

I have had ADHD probably my entire life, but wasn't diagnosed until I was about 16. I am a full time student now and I struggle mainly with paying attention and reading.

- Adderall Working / Worked
- I started Adderall again on 9/18/09. I haven't been on it for about 8 years. So far so good. I don't care for the little bit of "high" I get, as I am a recovering addict but I hope that high will go away soon.
- Ritalin Not Working
- Did not work for me. I had some side effects but I don't remember what they were. It was a long time ago.
Open Fibromyalgia
I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 9/09. I have had some bad flare ups mainly in my legs and some migraines. I had bilateral pulmonary embolisms back in April 09 that was very traumatic and caused a long hospital stay which may have caused the fibromyalgia. I haven't been the same since the PE. I am always exhausted and I sleep about 12-13 hours a night. I can't walk much without being in pain and being so tired. This is tough stuff.
Treatments
- Adderall Working / Worked
- I take Adderall for ADHD. I had no idea you could take this for Fibromyalgia. Will see if this helps me. I just started taking Adderall 9/18/09.
- Heat Somewhat Helpful
- Rice bags help a little bit, but not much.
- Elavil Working / Worked
- Helps me get to sleep faster than the Trazadone did. I was on Trazadone for many many years.

Open Anxiety
I have severe anxiety. I have my whole life. My heart pounds and I can't sit still. I can't concentrate on my school work. I also have ADHD so I'm really all over the place.
Treatments
- BuSpar Somewhat Helpful
- It worked a little bit for a while, but I had to go off of it after a short period of time.
- Lexapro Working / Worked
- This works very well for me! I am on 20 mg at night. Sometimes I wish I had just a bit more but I manage ok!
- Paxil Not Working
- This did not work for me.
- Positive Thinking Working / Worked
- I try to be positive but it's so hard sometimes.
- Trazodone Working / Worked
- I take this for insomnia, not anxiety.
Open Eating Disorders
Type: AnorexiaBinge eating and most recently anorexia.
Treatments
- Dietitian Consult Not Working
- Paid a lot of money for a nutritionist and it didn't help one bit.
- Group Therapy Not Working
- I got too anxious constantly looking at their bodies. I felt like I didn't belong there and they were looking at me like wow she's too fat to have an eating disorder.
- Lexapro Working / Worked
- I use this just for anxiety
- Overeaters Anonymous (OA) Not Working
- Didn't work at all.
- Paxil Not Working
- Didn't work
- Prozac Somewhat Helpful
- Worked for depression for a short period of time many years ago.
- Psychotherapy Not Working
- Saw an eating disorder specialist and it didn't help.
- Support from Friends & Family Somewhat Helpful
- It helps to have others to talk to about it.
- Topamax Working / Worked
- I only use this for migraine prevention. Never used it to help with ED.
Open Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Diagnosed with IBS, common with my Fibromyalgia.
