Thanks - I am trying to stay with it. They didn't tell me about all the crap that goes along with the shingles. Sore joints, ringing in the ears, .... Thanks again

Close Shingles
Over a year ago, I started getting repeated outbreaks of Shingles - just a nickel-sized spot on my upper right arm. I didn't know what it was and finally went to the doctor after 4 outbreaks. My doctor put me on Valtrex 500Mg to stop the outbreaks, which works, but then I got PHN. It's complicated by other conditions - right Frozen Shoulder, and Fibromyalgia. Sometimes my arm is fine, sometimes it feels like there is a marching band playing in my bicep.
Treatments
- Lyrica Considering
- My psych says that Lyrica seems to work for mood disorders, similar to Gabapentin, and it has a longer half-life so waking up in pain shouldn't be an issue. There is no generic version so it is more expensive and I have to see what my insurance co-pay would be. I'm seeing my neurologist next week and will ask her what she suggests.
Close Chronic Pain
I have Postherpetic Neuralgia and Fybromyalgia
Treatments
- Cymbalta Too Soon to Tell
- I was already using this for depression so I don't know if it is making a difference for PHN.
- Flexeril Working / Worked
- I am still trying to figure out the right dosage so that I don't sleep through the next day.
- Heat Working / Worked
- Definitely calms down a lot of the pain.
- Hydrocodone Working / Worked
- This works but makes me feel like a druggie.
- Neurontin Working / Worked
- The only problems are getting used to larger doses that at first make me feel off balance and my speech is slurred and that it doesn't last through the night.
Open Restless Legs Syndrome
I've had RLS for a long time but was diagnosed in 1998.
Treatments
- Clonazepam Somewhat Helpful
- I think that I have used it so long at such small doses that it doesnt help as much as it used to.
Open Fibromyalgia
I was just diagnosed in late March of this year and so am very new to how to handle it.
Treatments
- Acupuncture Considering
- I'd like to try non-drug approaches.
- Adderall Too Soon to Tell
- I am using this drug for ADD. I can't tell yet if it is working for Fibro.
- Cymbalta Too Soon to Tell
- I am using this drug for depression and don't know yet if it helps Fibro as well.
- Heat Working / Worked
- This helps the area where I think I am getting flares. It's hard to tell because I have PHN and a Frozen Shoulder in the same area.
- Neurontin Too Soon to Tell
- I am using this for PHN and don't know yet what it does for Fibro.
- TENS Considering
- I am using something similar at PT for the Frozen Shoulder and am trying to get a TENS for home. I like this kind of stimulation.
- Vitamin B12 Too Soon to Tell
- I am taking a lot of different vitamins including B12. I can't tell yet if it helps.
- Physical Exercise Too Soon to Tell
- I am trying to be more regular about this but my doctor says that proper sleep including getting enough stage 3 and 4 sleep plus regular exercise are the best things for Fibro.
Open Rheumatoid Arthritis
High RA factor, swan neck finger, trigger finger. Signs of early RA but not sure yet.
Treatments
- Folic Acid Too Soon to Tell
- Don't really know if it is helping yet.
Open Degenerative Joint Disease
Am beginning to feel consequences of past joint damage.
Open Medical Mysteries
Overwhelmed with multiple diagnoses and overall tendency to have "idiopathic" conditions.
Open Hypermobile Syndrome
I have always had hypermobile joints, especially the fingers and now that I am aging, it is causing problems.
