About Me
I am married with two young children, 2 and 6 years old. I have been suffering from depression since college, but it became much worse after my first child was born. My husband joined the military a year ago at the age of 35, so we are dealing with him being away for training and such. My son has ADHD and we are trying to help him out with getting some help at school, but it is a very slow process here.

Close Depression
Type: Clinical (Major) DepressionStarted in college, got told by a pdoc not depressed, so stopped zoloft. Tried CBT, but had trouble concentrating on it. Was okay for a while, but came back as post-partum. Put on Celexa, did fine. Got worse after negative life event, increased dose. Had daughter while on Celexa, she had withdrawal. Got switched to Cipralex a year later. On for a year, had to quit for $ reasons. Now started back on Cipralex. Side effects not so good.
Treatments
- Celexa Working / Worked
- Don't remember any side effects other than fatigue. Forced to switch to Cipralex because of drug assistance wouldn't cover anymore.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Not Working
- Couldn't even concentrate on it.
- Lexapro Somewhat Helpful
- Had to wean off for $ reasons (side effects: dizzy, nausea, jittery), started back on after 5 months and having side effects such as nausea, dizziness, jittery, fatigue. Currently only drug assistance will cover for me, so stuck with it.
- Psychotherapy Not Working
- Tried before, but probably not a good fit. Put in for another referral, so hopefully will work out better.
- Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
- Trazodone Not Working
- I just couldn't stay awake on it!
- Zoloft Not Working
- Probably wasn't on it long enough to make a difference.
Close Military Families
My husband joined the Canadian Military Reserves at the age of 35. Quite a change for a family with 2 young children (ages 2 and 7). He wants to go to Afghanistan on tour. We're waiting to hear if he has been accepted or not.

Open Parents of Children with ADHD
My son was diagnosed at age 5. He has been on Concerta for over a year and recently increased in dose. Will see if helps with school. He is struggling with reading mostly.

- Only side effect has been decreased appetite at lunch but he has made up for it at his other mealssnacks. His growth has not been affected.

Open Financial Challenges
My husband lost his good paying (compared to my salary) full-time permanent (or so we thought) job a year ago February. Ever since, he has not been able to get a full-time, let alone permanent job. He has joined the army, part-time reserve because we have 2 children and don't want to be moving around. He has been taking courses with it, so has gotten a little more work, but things are still backsliding!
