I recently had the priviledge of attending the Young Onset Parkinsons Network Nationional Conference in Atlanta. It was, as always, a great opportunity to sit in on sessions of interest, meet new people, catch up on news from acquaintances, and just be ourselves, whatever that may be. THE COAT even made it's presence. judy4etsu didn't disappoint us and was able to collect more than 20 photos of individuals who agreed to model the garment. Check it out on her page and at www.patientslikeme.com or is it .org? lol
One of the most moving moments was Friday night, late, when it was my turn to give the devotions for the three of us sharing a room. What the other two didn't know was that I had the scripture and the direction in mind that I wanted to share, but it just wasn't coming together for me. I prayed for wisdom and guidance to say what I felt the Lord would have me to share.
Judy had mentioned that Kari knew sign language and might possibly give a demonstration while we were at the conference. When I mentioned to her that I would love to see her do "Shout to the Lord" she hesitated and then indicated that she had not signed since her health issues had flaired up in December and she just was not emotionally ready to do that song. There was my inspiration!
Jeremiah 29:11 was one of the verses I had planned to use. For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans of hope for your future, paraphrased. There were other verses, but I felt that this was a reminder that a Higher Power DOES in fact have a plan for each of us. We are here to use those plans to glorify God.
As I reminded Kari that she is still WHO she has always been, and encouraged her to take care not to let PD take control of her live, something almost incomprehensible happened.
Kari turned to her back to us, put on her ear buds, faced her Mac and cued up a song and began moving her hands about, working to recall the signs for a favorite selection. With a deep breath and a bit of hesitation when reaching for the mouse, Kari closed her eyes and began to worship the Lord through the most artistic and inspiring presentation of signing I have seen in a good while. We were all in tears at that point.
It didn't stop with one song. Kari continued to sign several songs! WELCOME BACK KARI, and thanks to our Father for using me as an instrument to breathe new life back into Kari's ministry. All the glory goes to Him.
God is good, and I am blessed.
Becci.

Thank you Becci. It is good to see your perspective. :) It's going to be hard work (my arms are out of practice), but I'm ready.
