My 1st post & the news is disappointing.
Well, I got my referral from my primary dr waiting for me & I have a print out of the New Patient Information Forms for Hey Clinic. I filled out the web form for an appt. They called less than hour later to get some basic information & to set up the appt. Before setting the appt, I asked if they accepted Medicaid??? No, they primarily accept Medicare. I was crushed, everything was finally headed in a good direction, then this.
I then contacted my local SSA & asked if I applied for SSDI, which I do qualify for off my dad...would I also be able to get Medicare? Yes, but there is a 24 month period before Medicare benefits kick in. Now I'm really crushed. But going to get started Monday on applying & go from there. Hoping it will not take as long as they say. We'll see.
I know Hey Clinic is where I need to be, so will try my best to make it happen.

Unfortunately when you apply for SSDI, 1st there is a 5 month waiting period b/4 you can be eligible for benefits then you have to wait 24 months b/4 you get Medicare, there is no way around it. I applied in Oct 06 for SSDI, I was approved in April 08 and my Medicare just became effective 10 days ago on April 1st. I would go ahead and apply online now because it does take awhile. If you have Medicaid you should be able to find a Dr who takes it- I dont know what Hey Clinic is? Sorry I wish I could help -Hugs, Bonnie

Thanks for the info.
I will apply for SSDI & Medicare. I realize there are other drs & the lady at Hey Clinic gave me the name & # of one. But when it comes to another surgery, I would like Dr. Hey to do it if he agrees. Hey Clinic specializes in Spine disorders either diseases or accident related. One of their specialties is Scoliosis. In the mean time while I'm applying & waiting, I will try to get in shape as much as possible & also make an appt. with Dr. Fitch ( the dr Hey Clinic told me about) & go from there. 2 & a half years is a long wait & I will try & stay positive & find other things to do that will benefit me now & then.

Mary, you can also visit your Congressman to sign a release form so that they can follow up on your claim and make sure it doesn't take longer than necessary. My lawyer said that basically the ssi counselor will have a ton of papers to get to , so naturally they will take care of the ones flagged by the congressmen first. This is how it was explained to me. I saw my congressmen Gary Miller, and even though I was denied twice, it did expedite the situation. Now my claim has finally reached the judicial level, where I have to wait for my claim to be seen by the court of appeals. This is where your medical records become the evidence of your disability and suposedly your claim is usually finally awarded. ( I hope) It has been a bit over a year since my initial filing date. I am about halfway there, yay!!
