Close ADHD / ADD
My 7.5yo daughter has pretty severe ADHD (very AD, very H) along with severe anxiety/mood issues from medical trauma from ages 14mos thru 5yrs. We've tried a gazillion meds, switching her again most recently 8 days ago. She's currently on Geodon (antipsychotic/mood stabilizer), Celexa (antidepressant/anti-anxiety), and Ritalin LA.
Treatments
- Adderall Not Working
- We tried this to deal w/ her anxiety/ADHD. I forget the specifics, but it didn't touch her symptoms.
- Clonidine Somewhat Helpful
- Seemed to work great - she was calmer - then daughter got very depressed.
- Daytrana Somewhat Helpful
- Worked okay for a few days, then stopped.
- Metadate Not Working
- Initially, it didn't work (dropped her too hard), so we switched her to the Ritalin LA.
- Ritalin Working / Worked
- Short-acting dropped her very hard, but the LA is doing okay. We'll probably add a short-acting to get her through the afternoon soon, since she's getting bigger (she's 7.5). She's still very hyper.
- Tenex Not Working
- Worked a little less well than the clonidine - calmed her, but depressed her, too.
- Geodon Working / Worked
- 8 days so far doing well for settling her moods a bit better appetite less.
- Risperdal Not Working
- Dont recall didnt seem to have enough of a mood stabilizer effect. Switched to Zyprexa Zydis.
- Abilify Somewhat Helpful
- Did okay for her moods she was obsessed with food though and she gained weight. Switched for that reason to Risperdal.
- Zyprexa Somewhat Helpful
- Did okay for her moods but started to lose effectiveness she was obsessed with food and she gained weight. Switched for that reason to Geodon.
Close Anxiety Disorders in Children
My daughter has ADHD and severe (getting better) anxiety disorder from several years of medical trauma.
Treatments
- Play Therapy Working / Worked
- Beginning several weeks' process of winding down the last year or so of therapy.
- Celexa Working / Worked
- Shes been on it a while in addition to currently Geodon for moodetc. and Ritalin LA for ADHD.
Open Depression in Children
My daughter has ADHD and severe mood/anxiety issues from several years of medical trauma. She has problem making/keeping friends and has major control problems.
Treatments
- Celexa Working / Worked
- It's been working fair enough with the other meds on board.
- Play Therapy Working / Worked
- She loves her therapist - but he's getting ready to start the process to cut her loose.
- Positive Thinking Not Working
- She has horrible thoughts in her head; no amount of positivity I push on her seems to hold.
- Risperdal Somewhat Helpful
- Didn't seem to work very well at the dose we could give her.
- Support from Friends & Family Somewhat Helpful
- As much as she'll let us help!
- Talking Somewhat Helpful
- She doesn't like to talk too much about what's going on -- she embellishes to the point you can't tell what's truth.
- Geodon Working / Worked
- Been on it 8 days like it so far leveling out her moods.
- Ritalin Working / Worked
- Thinking about adding a shortacting afternoon dose but the LA has been doing well so far.
Open Migraine Headaches
Migraines fairly well controlled at the moment w/ meds - still have visual disturbances, though.
Treatments
- Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Somewhat Helpful
- Can't eat chunks of garlic, still avoid bacon in large quantities.
- Caffeine Working / Worked
- If I miss my coffee, I'm guaranteed a nasty headache.
- Fioricet Not Working
- Never touched 'em.
- Imitrex Not Working
- Didn't really work.
- Inderal Working / Worked
- Helping with the auras to an extent (also with the tremors - unrelated)
- Magnesium Too Soon to Tell
- I take it, but I had no idea it's a migraine treatment.
- Maxalt Not Working
- Didn't really work.
- Relpax Not Working
- Didn't really work.
- Topamax Working / Worked
- 300mg daily is keeping me out of the ER.
- Tylenol Not Working
- For migraine? Not even close! :)
- Zomig Somewhat Helpful
- It's hit or miss, but it's my go-to triptan when lorazepam doesn't head it off first.
- Ativan Working / Worked
- Heads off a headache sometimes if I take it right when an aura starts.
Open Parents of Children with ADHD
My 7.5yo daughter has ADHD and severe mood/anxiety disorders from years of medical trauma -- now has control issues to go along w/ those.
Open Pleurisy
I've had 2 pulmonary emboli (10/2006, 3/2008), and recurrent pleuritic pain.

- Hydrocodone Working / Worked
- mostly just pain control
Open Pulmonary Embolism
I've had 2 PEs: 10/2006 and 3/2008; currently on coumadin. Unknown origin - possibly because of ITP/large platelets.

Open Thrombocytopenic Purpura
Diagnosed w/ adult-onset ITP at 17 w/ splenectomy - now I have had 2 pulmonary emboli and am on coumadin at 38. My daughter had an acute ITP episode w/ platelets at 3000 and had an IVIg infusion; platelets also low at birth.
Treatments
- Prednisone Not Working
- For me Only worked briefly then fell off again. Had splenectomy.
- IVIG Working / Worked
- For my daughter took 2 days and gave her a reaction but finally pulled her out of a 3000platelet acute ITP episode.
Open Tuberculosis (TB)
Found out I have latent TB (?) 3/2008.
Treatments
- Isoniazid Working / Worked
- I guess? Took it for 5 mos.
- Vitamin B6 Working / Worked
- Took high doses alongside INH for 5mos.
